Steven Choti Obituary

CHOTI, Steven Istvan
1919-2011

Steven Istvan Choti, 92, died on December 28, 2011, after a lengthy battle from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Oregcserto, Hungary on August 30, 1919, he was the son of Antal and Erzsebet (Torok) Csoti. While a university student in Budapest during the Hungarian occupation in World War II, he was interned in a labor camp in Dresden,
Germany and he survived the bombing of Dresden. He eventually escaped and became a refugee in Germany after the war, completing his graduate studies at the Technical University of Munich. He immigrated first to Montreal Canada, eventually settling in Southern California in 1954 with his first wife, Olga (Jivotovsky) Choti. He enjoyed a long career as a mechanical engineer, including 38 years with the Ralph M. Parsons Corp. in Pasadena, California. His profession took him to various world assignments, including Algeria, Greece and Germany where he met his second wife Anne.
Known for his breadth of experience and intellect in engineering, Steven worked on varied complex projects throughout his career, ranging from aerospace, military defense, petroleum refinery plant design, desalination technology, and manufacturing design. Most recently before retiring in 1994, he was in the design group for the Hyperion Wastewater Treatment Plant for the City of Los Angeles, for which he was awarded the Certificate of Meritorious Achievement by Mayor Tom Bradley.
A long time resident of Glendale, California, Steven also enjoyed his time away from work. He was an avid gardener; he also enjoyed traveling, classical music, and fine wine. After retirement he developed a passion for oil painting.
He is survived by his three children Steven R. Choti, Dr. Michael A. Choti (and wife Carole) and Suzanne E. Choti, and by his two grandchildren Anneliese Yagerman and Tristan Choti. He was predeceased by his devoted wife Anne (Lehrmann) Choti, and by his two brothers Gero and Jeno Csoti.
