Gary Cartwright Obituary

SEEKONK - Gary J. Cartwright, 61, of Seekonk, passed away on July 22, 2022 surrounded by loved ones after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the loving husband of Jane (Brindle) Cartwright for 33 years. Gary was born in Providence and a 79 graduate of Tolman High School. He was the son of Richard Cartwright and the late Susan (Vose) Jencks, and the stepson of the late Herchal Jencks.

Gary was employed by Amtrak for 40 years. He also delivered newspapers for the Providence Journal and Pawtucket Times for 30 years. He was on the Board of Directors for Doorways Food Pantry and regularly donated blood.

His greatest joy in life was being with his children. He volunteered for a variety of programs with Seekonk Public Schools and chaperoned every field trip his 4 children attended. Coach Gary led several recreational teams for the Town of Seekonk including softball, soccer, basketball, and baseball.

In his downtime, Gary enjoyed gardening, frequently giving his vegetables to friends and family. He loved taking trips to North Conway, New Hampshire and listening to the Bruins, Red Sox, and Patriots on sports radio. In his earlier years, Gary participated in various duckpin bowling leagues and tournaments.

Besides his wife and father, Gary is survived by his loving children Hillary, Dillon, Jillian, and Mallory Cartwright, and his adoring granddaughter Eliana.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Service on Thursday July 28, 2022, at 10 AM at Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Ave. Warwick. Burial will be in Seekonk Cemetery, Seekonk, MA. I just learned of this tragic news and we wanted to express our deepest sympathies to Gary´s family. Gary was always a great person and always had something good to say about everyone. He was a huge supporter of his family and was always proud of their individual accomplishments. I always enjoyed catching up on all the Seekonk news when we had breakfast together at the Ritz Dinette on Friday mornings. He used to give me some great tips on a new breakfast spot that he would come across in his work travels. I was truly shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. He will be missed by more people than you know because he was one the "good guys". To Gary´s family please accept our sincere sympathies for your family´s loss from the Keegan family of Seekonk.

Dillon, though I did not know him, I think your father must have been an exceptional man - having raised someone as wonderful as you. All my love and sympathy to you and your family.

So sorry for the passing of husband, father and grandfather. Best man ever. I worked at Michelettis Rest. Gary was always around with his beautiful children in tow. I am saddened by his passing. Gary watched out for all the kids. His or mine. Love to all of you his loving family. I could write a book about his kindness.

I am in complete shock over hearing this news and my heart is crushed. The world lost such a kind-hearted, generous, and genuine soul. I remember seeing him in school so often and he was always offering a helping hand to anyone in need. All the staff knew Gary!! To this day, I can hear his burly laugh and see his giant smile as he roamed the halls, visited the classroom, or stopped in the office. He sure was an involved parent. He even invited me to watch some of Mallory´s ice hockey games, and whenever I went, I always felt welcomed because Gary made me feel like I was sitting next to a guy I had known forever. That´s just who he was. My heart goes out to his beautiful family. The world lost one terrific man.
