PAWTUCKET - Manuel Lopes Prazeres, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2022, surrounded by his loving family in the Philip Hulitar, Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Center, Providence. He was the husband of Maria Candida (de Almeida) Prazeres. They have been married for the past 56 years.
Born in Vide Entre Vinhas, Portugal, he was the son of the late Antonio Lopes and Maria Conceicao (Nave) dos Prazeres. Manuel came to this country in 1972, settling in Rhode Island with his wife and young family. He was proud to become a US Citizen in 1977.
He was a communicant of St. John Paul II Parish, Pawtucket and also attended Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland. His faith in The Lord is enduring and a gift that will stay with all of his family.
He was an avid gardener, landscaper and enjoyed sharing the bounty from his garden with his family, neighbors, and friends. He loved his fruit trees, grapevine and flowers. He also enjoyed cooking, together with his wife, for their large family gatherings, sharing laughs, and sharing the wine that he would make. He was also a fan of Sporting Clube de Portugal.
Manuel was a member of the the Clube Juventude Lusitana, Cumberland, and the Uniao Portuguesa Beneficente, Pawtucket for many years and enjoyed spending time there with his friends.
Manuel was a landscaper by trade, running his own small business for more than 30 years. Previously, he was employed by the City of Pawtucket, as a custodian and landscaper in the Parks and Recreation Department for almost 20 years. When he came to the United States he worked in several local factories.
Beside his wife, he is survived by his three children; Fatima M. Trindade and her husband Joao of Seekonk, MA.; Paulo J. Prazeres and his wife Ana of North Attleboro, MA.; and Cezarina "Sue" A.P. Jackson and her husband Eric of Seekonk, MA. His sister; Estefania Nave dos Prazeres and his brother Artur dos Prazeres both of Portugal. Five grandchildren; Jonathan, Andrew, Cassandra, Sophia, and Evan. Two great-grandchildren; Paislee and Jonathan, along with many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all of his family.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Manuel's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Friday, April 29, 2022 from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM, and continuing on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in Saint John Paul II Parish, 745 Central Avenue, Pawtucket. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
