On the morning of November 18, 2021 heaven was graced with a new, feisty, little red-headed angel, Denise Hendrix. Denise was a 60 plus year resident of Corona, driving cross country from Waterbury, Connecticut where she was born, August 11, 1939. She and her dear friend Dottie came to California because they had accepted a teaching position with the Corona-Norco Unified School District right out of college. She spent her entire career as an educator in Corona-Norco - 45 years - moving to several different schools and grade levels. As a teacher Denise was devoted to her students, many of whom became her life-long friends as they grew up and she found herself teaching THEIR children! She was always a fierce advocate for teachers and was very involved with the Corona-Norco Educators Association serving in several offices and always available to serve and help in any way. She continued to support teachers through her involvement in CALRTA, the California Retired Teachers' Association. Denise was instrumental in establishing the annual district-wide "Track Meet" and was very proud to have the starting pistol to set the whole event in motion each year. While teaching 6th grade at El Cerrito Elementary School she completed her Master's degree in Educational Administration and was selected as the Assistant Principal during the challenging days of 5-track, year-round school schedules. She was a tireless supporter of "her" teachers and "her" students and always available for them. When Cesar Chavez School opened in 1997, Denise was selected as the Principal of the new school. As the leader of a brand new school she helped establish a culture of trust and compassion and excellence among the students, staff, parents, and community. Denise retired in 2007 but teaching and education were always in her heart and she remained close to her colleagues and friends. Denise's generosity and selflessness will long be remembered as she gave her ALL to so many - her time, her money, her love and compassion in times of need, she was always there for you. Denise was always the person who could be counted on. Denise will be remembered as a fiercely loyal friend who cared deeply about others before self. Denise loved Corona and was so happy to live here! She gave to the community also as a member of the Circle City Kiwanis Club where she especially loved the lunch time meetings at the Sizzler! She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter SI, Corona (Philanthropic Educational Organization) which promotes educational opportunities for women and provides scholarships to many women each year from graduating high school seniors through graduate school. Denise's legacy will be one of a feisty, fierce, loyal friend who was there for so many people throughout her long career. We will plan a special celebration of her life in mid January so many of her friends can come together to honor this exceptional woman and dear, dear friend. In peace I will lie down and sleep for You, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8
