SHERRY SWORDS
NEW BOSTON — Sherry Swords, 66, of New Boston, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at SOMC Hospice.
She was born Dec. 29, 1947, in Portsmouth to the late Richard and Nellie Pauline Bocook Vest.
Sherry was a member of St. Mary's Church, Union Mission Church (where she taught Sunday School), First United Methodist Church (where she also taught Sunday School), and First Church of God. She was a former manager at Bonanza Restaurant, Vice-President of the New Boston Band Boosters, and loved crafts, reading, and interior decorating.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Swords.
She is survived by her husband, Jeffery Swords, two daughters, Tonya Evans of Portsmouth and Ishia Brickey of New Boston, three grandchildren, and a brother, Richard Vest of Piketon.
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Melcher Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Acie Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, and 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Friday at Melcher Funeral Home.

Sherry & I worked together at the Bonanza in the 70's and it was always a pleasure running into her when I would come home to visit. She was a wonderful lady and will be missed by many. My condolences to her family.
