Thomas Matthew Finan

THOMAS MATTHEW FINAN Age 87, died Saturday, March 8, 2014 in Hemet, CA. Thomas was born in Barre, MA on September 23, 1926. His parents were Grace (Sheehan) Finan and Thomas Finan. Thomas attended Barre schools and Tufts University and Boston University in Massachusetts. He worked for many years at Finan's Express in Barre, Mass. His navy career ended as a Commander in the U.S. Navy. During his service he served on the U.S.S. Bairoko in WWII. Thomas served on the U.S.S. Leyte and U.S.S. Coral Sea in Korea. He enjoyed attending many ship reunions with his comrades. He also served in the supply corps in Bayonne, New Jersey. Thomas was a member of the Barre Legion Post. Thomas moved his family to California in 1969. He enjoyed gardening and traveling. He is survived by his children Ellen E. Finan of Desert Hot Springs, CA, Ann Troy Finan Brook of Carlsbad, CA, Mary E. Finan of Bridgeport, CT and Thomas Matthew Finan Jr. of Hemet, CA. Thomas leaves behind two sisters, Irene Finan Mitchell and Barbara Finan. Services will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 at San Jacinto Valley Mortuary, 250 S. State Street, San Jacinto, CA. Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church located at 26340 Soboba St., Hemet, CA 92544 at 10:00AM with a military graveside service in the Riverside National Cemetery at 12:30PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House.
