Barbara Brunoehler Anderson passed away peacefully at her home on April 21, 2024. She was born in Aurora, Ill., on October 13, 1931, to Paul Brunoehler and Helen Johnson Brunoehler Ahline. When she was nine months old, her father passed away and she and her mother moved to Galesburg, Ill., to live with her grandmother. Barbara graduated from Galesburg High School in 1949. When she was 16 years old, she went on a blind date with Dean Anderson (on his birthday March 19). They dated for six years, all through college and married the love of her life on July 9, 1953. This past July they celebrated 70 years of marriage. She attended Knox College in Galesburg and graduated in 1953 with a BS in Elementary Education and was affiliated with Phi Mu sorority while there. After marriage, Dean and Barbara moved to La Jolla, Calif., while Dean was in the Marine Corps. While there, Barbara taught elementary school. When Dean's service was complete, they moved back to Galesburg and she taught 2nd grade at Silas Willard Elementary School until the birth of their daughter, Julie. Two years later, the birth of their son, Douglas completed their family. Dean and Barbara loved to play golf with many friends at Soangetaha Country Club. In 1965, the family moved to Friendswood, Texas and enjoyed playing golf all over Texas and the United States. Barbara had four holes-in-one over her golfing career. Later, they joined Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, where Barbara served in many capacities for the Women's Golf Association. They had lived in Green Tee Terrace for the last 39 years and have made many lifelong friends. Barbara was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing weekly with her friends for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather, Carl Ahline; and brother-in-law, Bob Anderson. She is survived by her husband, Dean; and daughter, Julie Lucas (Jarvis) of Austin, Texas; and son, Doug (Kathryn) of Missouri City, Texas; as well as four grandchildren, Jonathan Lucas, Jessica Lucas, Kari Dixon (Jason) and Eric Anderson (Margot). She also had two great-grandchildren, Jaxon Dixon and Kaitlin Dixon; and her sister-in-law, Aileen Anderson. The family would like to thank Sara Copeland for her loving care and Bertha Munoz and Troy Trahan for all their dedication through the years.
We will celebrate Barbara's wonderful life on May 8, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, 2314 N. Grand Blvd., Pearland, Texas 77581. Visitation from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., and service at 2:00 p.m.
