Kent Burkett Obituary

Kent Douglas Burkett, 57, of Pearland passed away February 2, 2022. He was born June 26, 1964 in Pasadena, TX to the late Melvin Gene Burkett and Rosie Marie Moon Burkett. He was raised in Pearland, TX where he participated in football starting with the Pearland Texans at the age of seven. He graduated from Pearland High School, playing with the Pearland Oilers until his graduation from high school in 1982. Kent earned his Bachelors of Business Administration, majoring in Management from Southwest Texas State University in 1986 and his Masters of Business Administration in 1996 from LeTourneau University.

Kent's loves were his family, his country, and the Matagorda County coast. He spent many weekends in the Sargent, TX community with his family, fishing with his son Skyler, and living an extraordinary life with his loving wife, Brandy.

A politician by nature, Kent spent much of his career in Austin, TX and Washington, D.C., serving as a Congressional Aide for several years. He had a passion for the government and its processes, but none equaled his passion for his family.

Kent was employed as a Manager for the Brazoria County Toll Road Authority in the Brazoria County Engineering department.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Brandy Leigh Burkett of Pearland; his mother Rosie Marie Burkett of Pearland; his son Skyler Lee Burkett; his brother Bret Howard Burkett (Linda) of Porter, and niece and nephews Kaitlynn Elizabeth Upchurch, Jordan Reese Burkett and Daniel Jacob Burkett.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at First Baptist Church, Bay City, TX with Rev. Tyler McKinney officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, TX. Pallbearers will be friends of the deceased.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shadycrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 3017 Yost Blvd., Pearland, TX 77581.
