Randy Haffner Obituary

Randy Haffner, 62, of Pendleton, Indiana, passed away on August 31, 2025, at St.

Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after an extended illness.

He was born on August 14, 1963, in Portland, Indiana.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Jack Haffner; and sister, Cheryl Jo

Haffner.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Lynn (Hoehamer) Haffner; mother, Betty (Snow) Haffner of Portland; daughters, Taylor Leann (Nik) Schweitzer of Fishers and Abigail Leigh Haffner of Pendleton; grandchildren, Carson and Teagan Schweitzer; sisters, Karen (Mike) Hirschy of Portland and Teresa (Mark) Myers of Dunkirk; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was an avid horse lover. Showing Appaloosas in his youth turned into a lifelong passion of training Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racehorses spanning four decades. He began his career training quarter horses in 1989, becoming an integral part of the sport in Indiana. Randy trained the winner of the first Indiana parimutuel quarter horse race with Easy's Night Beat at Hoosier Park in 1997. After winning thoroughbred and quarter horses races in Kentucky, Oklahoma, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, and Indiana, Randy continued to invest in the sport as a breeder, stallion owner, and racing advocate. Most recently, Randy enjoyed time with his grandchildren, breeding mares and raising foals, and sharing his knowledge and years of experience in the sport.

A celebration of Randy's life was held from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, September 7, 2025,

at the Mercer Family Barn, 1189 W. 700 S., Pendleton, Indiana 46064.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude’s Children's Research
