David Platt Obituary

David "Dave" Platt passed peacefully after a short illness on September 30, 2025.
Dave began his life's journey on "Flag Day" June 14, 1955. He grew up in Whittier, CA, where he participated in Scouting, Little League Baseball, and family camping trips. Dave graduated from Calhi School in 1973. Partway through college he moved to Northern California, where he graduated from Sonoma State University in 1978, with a degree in Anthropology. While in Northern California, Dave married Jan Vogee.
After college, Dave moved to the Santa Cruz area, where he lived for many years. During this time, he married Ailene Platt, and had a daughter.
Dave was proud of his position as a CSP – Certified Safety Professional, for the state of California, where he "taught employers how to not maim or injure their staff". Dave was called "The Safety Guy".
In 2019, Dave moved to the Northwest, Sequim, WA. Where he spent his final years.
Through out his life, Dave enjoyed photography, cooking, fishing, gardening, and music. Dave went to many concerts throughout his life. Dave was a founding member of the Whittier Boys Club.
Dave is survived by his wife, Merribeth Platt (married 2006), his daughter, Carolanne Baker, his sister, son-in-law, mother-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, 2 sisters-in-law, 3 nephews, and 2 step-grandchildren and other extended family members. Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marian Platt (author of From My Kitchen Window Cook Book), longtime Sequim residents.
Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for Spring 2026. Details TBD.
