John Kertis Obituary

John Ross Kertis was born on June 26, 1961, in Kirkland, Washington to Howard and Barbara Kertis. He passed away on October 25, 2024, at the age of sixty-three. He grew up on the Olympic Peninsula and attended Sequim schools. John was a dedicated and skilled professional in the construction trades, where he spent many years contributing to the development and improvement of his community. His work was marked by a commitment to quality and a strong work ethic. John finished his career working as the manager of Jamestown Excavating from 1996 to 2018 when he retired from employment.

John had a passion for the outdoors, finding joy in bird hunting east of the mountains, target shooting at Sunnydell Gun Club, and river fishing on the Dungeness and many rivers out west. These activities were not just hobbies but a way for him to connect with nature and find peace and relaxation.

John is survived by his sisters, Annette (Peter) Nesse and Lisa (Chuck) Parrish, who thoroughly enjoyed their brother's warmth and humor. He also leaves behind his niece, Callie (Steven) Higgs, and nephew, Cory (Chloe) Parrish, who will fondly remember their uncle's kindness and the special moments they shared. He was also the proud great uncle to Zealand and Angus Higgs. He was preceded in death by his parents.

John was married twice, first to Waynora Martin and later to Cindy Fittro. Though these marriages ended, they were significant chapters in his life, filled with shared experiences and personal growth.

John's life was one of hard work, love for the outdoors, and cherished family connections. He will be remembered for his dedication to his craft, his love of nature, and the deep bonds he shared with his family. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will live on through the stories and experiences shared by those he touched.

A private celebration of life is planned for spring of 2025.

My sincerest condolences to sister Annette. The three of worked together for many years where I also spent some really fun times with them attending Christmas events in Seattle. John was always so nice to me, he always had a big smile and a hug every time I saw him! They are good people. He is missed.
