Joshua worked hard in life as well. He was a Makah Tribal Summer Youth Program song leader and a Makah Cultural and Research Center language transcriber, translator and curriculum development technician.

Joshua worked at the Makah Fisheries Program: Marine Mammal as a surveyor, researcher and data collector for traditional Makah halibut hook project, resulting in publication in the journal Fisheries Research 2017. Joshua was also a Makah Tribal Council delegate to special events, meetings and celebrations to deliver speeches and songs in the Makah language, including trips to Barrow, Alaska; Washington, D.C.; and Olympia, Washington.

Joshua is survived by his mother, Rebekah J. Monette; stepfather Steve Baum; his father, William J. Monette, and Alison Hero; his sisters, Lamira Luna and Lani Pele Richardson; his brother, William Eli Monette and Felicia Monje; his nephew, Braedyn Eli Monette; as well as numerous, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and his grandfather Philip R. I think of Joshua often. I met him when The Granite Falls Band came to Neah Bay. He will always live on in the lives he touched.

I didn't know Joshua that well but my mom did and I had met him a couple of times. The last time I met him was at Lucas Weavers memorial. Whenever my mom would talk about Joshua she always had a smile on her face she would always talk highly about him. When I saw him at the memorial, I realized my mom was right he was a very kind person he had a gentle personality about him. I am so blessed and glad that I got to meet him. When my mom got the news about him it broke her heart. She truly cared about him and she loved having him as a student. I wasn't able to go with my mom and send my love to the family for the memorial but i was at home watching the live feed with friends and family who knew and loved him. I am so sorry for everyone's loss. I believe he is in a better place and his spirit is still with us.
