Lawrence Seward Obituary

Chief Petty Officer Lawrence Eugene Seward, United States Coast Guard (Ret.), passed away in Silverdale, Washington, at the age of 76, surrounded by his family.

Born in February 1949 in Port Angeles, Washington, to Everett and Lola (Gallauher) Seward, Lawrence dedicated his life to service. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and began a distinguished career that spanned both coasts of our nation. He served faithfully at multiple duty stations, including the South Pole and Coast Guard Air Station Miami, and earned the respect of his shipmates and superiors alike.

Throughout his career, Chief Seward received numerous commendations and awards, including the Coast Guard Good Conduct Award (five times), Coast Guard Unit Commendation with "O" Device, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Antarctic Service Ribbon, and the Coast Guard Expert Pistol Medal. His dedication, professionalism, and leadership left a lasting impact on those who served beside him.

Chief Seward retired honorably from active duty on July 31, 1986, after 20 years of faithful federal service. Following his military career, he made his home in Silverdale, Washington, where he continued to serve his community, working for USPS, Bangor Security, Winslow Police Department, Boeing Security, and starting a successful locksmith company with his family before fully retiring.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rhonda (Beecher) Seward, whom he met in the winter of 1977 and married 3 weeks later.

He is survived by his children: Cassandra Carrasco, Commander William E. Seward, USCG (Ret.) and wife Cary, Paula Davis and husband Rob, and Lawrence E. Seward II, his grandchildren: Thomas, Austin, Christopher, Alexander, Andrew, Gavin, and Lawrence III, three great grandchildren: Kairi, Emily, and Stacy, and his sister Amy Sommers and husband Trace.

A funeral service will be held at Harper Ridgeview Funeral Chapel in Port Angeles, Washington, on October 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Interment with military honors will follow at Ocean View Cemetery at 1:00 PM.

The family extends their gratitude to the United States Coast Guard for providing an Honor Guard detail to render final honors befitting his service and sacrifice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers & Enlisted Association.

Chief Petty Officer Lawrence Seward will be remembered as a devoted father, a trusted shipmate, a patriot, and a caring man with a heart of gold.
