Marolyn Joan (Snyder) Conkle peacefully took her last breath on earth at OMC Hospital in Port Angeles, WA and her first breath in Heaven on October 6, 2025.
Marolyn (spelled with an "O" by her mom because Carolyn is spelled that way) was born on December
29, 1932 to Margaret and Lester Snyder at her grandmother's house in Dover, Ohio. She was the second of four daughters- Doris, the eldest, who passed away unexpectedly at six years old, and younger sisters, Barbara and Becky. As a precocious little one, she walked at eight months, so short she could even walk under the kitchen table. With very curly black hair (that went straight after her first haircut at two years old) and dark eyes, she quickly earned the nickname "Susie", after the "Black-Eyed Susan" flowers. She grew up loving to paint, draw, and play the piano. She married her high school sweetheart, R. Ronald Conkle, at age eighteen and, just between the two of them, her married nickname became "Mike". Together they had four children- Clayton (Joey) Conkle of Indiana, Michele (Steve) Ebright of Ft. St. John, BC, Canada, Tyler (Linda) Conkle of
Sequim, WA, and Diedre Conkle, who, born premature at 7 months gestation, made an early arrival into heaven. After twenty years of marriage, they divorced, and life continued for her with church as a main focus throughout her life. She immigrated to Canada in 1975 to pursue church fellowship there, traveling from eastern to western Canada over the years. She experienced adventurous "bush living" in the early 1990's, which included dogsledding and snowshoeing in the Yukon. She moved about, working for the Canadian government as a typist of sorts, then, later, as restaurant management and cook. She moved to Alaska in 1995 to be closer to family, then followed family in 1999 to
Sequim, WA. Here, she immensely enjoyed the company of ladies in the Red Hat Society for a time but continued to the end to enjoy the company of church ladies and get-togethers. Purple was her color- in youth, a vivacious boldness, in middle age, strength and determination, in old age, an unstated love for beauty and creativity, and a dignified flair in every outfit.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Doris, her parents, Margaret and Lester, her daughter, Diedre, and her grandson, Micah Ebright, who was called home at sixteen years old. She is survived by her three children, ten grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren, with another due in October.
Time and opportunity fail to allow that all the joys, sorrows, challenges, and successes be written or
even known, for she was a strong woman, independent, with a tough exterior. She was a godly woman,
refined and softened by pain in her older years, known as a strong support to many in written letters and cards with words of encouragement, as well as calling and visiting those who couldn't get out. She used her energy to make her elderly friends feel known and appreciated.
Now she is in heaven, catching up with all those who went before her, including the daughter she never
got to know. It was her wish that she be buried with Diedre in Massillon, Ohio.
Her Celebration of Life will be held on November 29th, at Sequim Valley Foursquare church, time to be announced.
