Reba Blevins Cornett

1931 - 2022

Reba Blevins Cornett, age 91, loving daughter, sister and aunt, passed away October 28, 2022 in Port Angeles, WA.

Reba was born in Big Laurel, KY to Lawrence & Mary Jane Blevins. She attended Pine Mountain Settlement School, Kingdom Come High School and later went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Berea College and then earned a master's degree from Peabody College, a part of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She taught in a rural part of KY for a few years then the remainder of her career she taught in the Port Angeles School System. Throughout her career she taught grades 1-8 at the elementary level and was a reading teacher for grades K to 5th grade. She at one time wrote the reading curriculum for the elementary schools in the district. She enjoyed traveling and was a lifelong learner. She once said travel guidebooks were like Bibles. She loved the planning of trips and enjoyed discovering new things. She took joy in the small things that most people would not notice. She also enjoyed nature and passed that love onto those she met and her family. She was very active in the Retired Teacher's Association for Clallam Co., chaired several scholarship committees and was an active member of her local church, First Baptist.

She is preceded in death by her husband Estill Cornett, parents Lawrence and Mary Jane Blevins, brother Rufus Blevins, brother Curtis Blevins, sister Louellen Blevins Osment, brother in law Ray Decker, sister in law Bessie Blevins, niece Annette Blevins Lowe, and nephew Jeffery Osment.

She is survived by her sister Mabel Blevins Smith, brother in law Aaron Smith, brother in law Bratton Osment, brother Billy Ray Blevins, sister Betty Blevins Decker. She also has nieces and nephews - Pam Blevins Stamper, Randy Blevins, Karen Blevins Edwards, Kim Blevins Kelsay, Lynn Smith Spatz, Stacey Smith Fitzgerald, Tim Osment, Sandra Osment Meyers, Michael Osment, Lisa Decker-Chupa, Linda Blevins Gibbs and Christy Blevins and multiple great nieces and nephews.

A burial ceremony will be held at the Middle Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery in Nashville, TN. Reverend Brian Spatz (great nephew) will be officiating.

The family would like to thank her dear neighbors Jay & Yvette Cline and Fritz & Shana Clemens for their loving kindness to our sweet Reba (and Estill) over the years. Also, we would like to recognize the dedicated care and guidance from Attorney Stephen Moriarty and his wife Deborah.
