Richard R. "Dick" Amundson

1939 - 2017

Richard R. "Dick" Amundson went to be in the arms of Jesus on May 23, 2017, after a valiant fight with esophageal and liver cancer.

He was born February 8, 1939, in Port Angeles, where he spent most of his life.

Born to Alfred and Coral Amundson, the 12th of 12 children, he married the love of his life, Glenda Fried, in Tulare, California, on May 6, 1960, and had three sons who were the pride of his life: Richard Jr. (deceased), Randy (Denise) Amundson and Ron Amundson.

He was known as a man of many talents, from working as an equipment operator for ITT Rayonier for many years to having his own landscaping yard and in later years (because he wouldn't quit working) for Anjo Soils of Sequim. When his boys were Boy Scout age, he was a Webelos leader as well.

You were lucky if he called you friend because he would do anything for you. He was a dedicated man to his Lord and church, Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he spent untold hours working to keep the grounds and buildings just right.

He could do just about anything with his hands and did for other people as well. He never knew the word "quit." His love of old cars was evident in his two "hot rods" of show quality. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

His grandchildren were so extra special to him and he loved them dearly. He is survived by his two grandsons, Ricky and Ryan; two granddaughters, Amanda and Alisha; two great-grandchildren, Vanessa and Sawyer; two stepgranddaughters, Kerrie and Krysty; with three stepgreat-grandsons and two stepgreat-granddaughters. He is also survived by his brother, Ken (Darlene) Amundson; sister-in-law Ollie (Bud) Wright; brother-in-law Albert Fried; and numerous nieces and nephews in Washington and California.

Memorial services were held May 29, 2017, at Hillcrest Baptist Church.
