Runar Johnson Obituary
A private Graveside Service with military honors will be held at Sequim View Cemetery on October 31, 2023. There will be a gathering of family and friends afterwards at the Johnson home from 4-6 PM - 830 W Fir Street in Sequim.
Runar was born April 12, 1938, in Manila (Philippines) to Runar Otto and Billie Marie (Funke) Johnson. On January 31, 1960, he married his sweetheart, Lavina Rae Tudor on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Runar proudly served in the US Navy from 1966 to 1968.
After completing Dental School in St. Louis, he and Lavina moved to Sequim in 1967, opening a dental practice in 1968. He served the community as a dentist to provide help and healing for 55 years. He was known for his holistic treatment of the body through dentistry with renown attention to bite balance. Patients came from all over the country to see Dr. Johnson for his keen ability to provide holistic care and alleviate pain.
When not working, Runar was an avid fisherman, a lover of sports - especially football, baseball and golf. He coached soccer, baseball and basketball. Runar was easily recognized in town driving his shiny black Jaguar.
Runar was a loving father and grandfather devoting his life to his family. He was a passionate follower of Jesus and loved to tell everyone about his faith. As a church leader he consistently taught and mentored others.
He is survived by son R. Dwayne (Penny) Johnson of Vancouver, WA; daughters Deanna (Daniel) Deckard of Fairfield, CA and Amalia (Ryan) Lillis of Dublin, CA and nine grandchildren Brandon Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson, Suzanna Johnson, Daniel E. Deckard, Amalia (Deckard) Farris, Isaac Deckard, Emma Lillis and Ashton Lillis. He also leaves behind a sister, Judy Sawyer.
He was preceded in death by both parents and his loving wife, Lavina Tudor Johnson who passed in 2022.

Dr. Runar was truly a pioneer in holistic dentistry and his contributions cannot be understated. I will always remember his openness and willingness to teach and share his knowledge, and the patience and passion he brought to his practice.
