William Pieratt Obituary

Bill passed away peacefully on June 17th in Port Angeles. He was 87 years old.

Bill was born in Dalhart, Texas to James William and Vivian May Pieratt. He moved multiple times before they settled in Port Angeles. Bill graduated from Port Angeles Senior High School in 1957. He met the love of his life, Marjorie Swanson, during his high school years and they married in 1959. While Marjorie attended The University of Washington, Bill worked for The Boeing Co. manufacturing the missiles for the B-52 Bombers. He also served his country as a supply purchaser in the United States Army. Still living in the Seattle area, Ryan, his son, was born in 1965. They were drawn back to Port Angeles in 1966 to the place that gave them their most joy. Bill became a shareholder of PenPly in 1966 and continued working there until 1986. In 1967, Sheryl, his second child, was born.

Bill was a very hands on husband, father and grandfather. He worked at countless swim meets, fishing derbies, little league games, and was the Scoutmaster for Troop 1461 for many years. During his time as Scoutmaster, he lead many scouts on multiple 50 mile hikes all over the Olympic Peninsula.

In 1986 Bill and Marge became the proud owners of the town ice cream store, Baskin Robbins. This was his true passion. Often people would come there to celebrate happy occasions and achievements. Bill enjoyed being a part of each and every family's special moments.

Bill was a member of the Port Angeles Nor'Wester Rotary Club. He was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow and Honorary Lifetime Rotary Club Member Status. He loved being a Rotarian and serving the community.

When Bill volunteered he took it very seriously. If Bill said he was going to be there, not only could you count on his word but he was also 30 minutes early. He spent many hours at the food bank, friendship dinners, flipping burgers on the pier, selling car raffle tickets and working the Port Angeles marathon. Volunteering for the marathon was one of his favorite non-paying jobs. He was in charge of all the runners personal item bags from the starting line to the finish. After retiring and selling the ice cream store, Bill became a weekly volunteer at Olympic Medical Center in Short Stay. He made sure if you were lost or unsure where to go he would get you to the correct location with a smile.

In Bill's spare time he loved to play pinochle, cribbage, golf, gardening, traveling and resting his eyes. He was also a very generous man. He was always the first to grab for his wallet because, "he had money that hadn't been spent yet." Bill was a member of The First Baptist Church of Port Angeles and Port Angeles Naval Elks Lodge.

Bill is survived by his wife, Marjorie. They were married one month shy of 66 blessed years together. His two children and their spouses: Ryan (Linda) Pieratt and Sheryl (Ken) Curtis, and four grandchildren: Cameron Pieratt, Casey Curtis, Amy Curtis and Tyler Curtis.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, James and Vivian Pieratt, and younger brother Richard Ira Pieratt.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, August 24th at 2 p.m. at the Peninsula Golf Course Club House in Port Angeles, Washington.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Port Angeles Nor'Western Rotary Foundation, Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, or the Port Angeles Naval Elks Lodge #353.

I had the pleasure of working with Bill, while he volunteered at OMC Short Stay Unit. He always had to biggest smile and was so kind to all he encountered. He was a bright light on the unit!

My fond memories of Mr Pieratt came from growing up with his daughter Sheryl. He would drive us to swim meets, the lake and around town. He and his wife Marge were always so welcoming and friendly to me and so many other kids involved in their life. As I grew older, I would run into Bill at the hospital or when he was out doing activities for the many city organizations he was involved in. He always remembered me and had a smile on his face. My condolences to Marge, Ryan, Sheryl and their families. God bless you all.

As volunteer coordinator at OMC, I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Bill for many years. He was one of the best volunteers ever. Such a sweet man and loved helping people. He will surely be missed by many.
