Elizabeth Hoffman
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Aycock Hoffman was 83 when she died on August 29, 2021, in Portland, Maine. George Eliot observed that "our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them." Elizabeth will long live on. As a professor of English Literature and Lawyer she will be remembered as a friend to many who enjoyed her strength and wit in the graduate English program at the University of Rochester, in her teaching at the Eastman School of Music, at Widener University Law School in Harrisburg, in the Dauphin County legal community where she was a Clerk in Judge Kleinfelter's office and in private practice, as well as those she worked with at the Innocence Project. Elizabeth will remain most forcefully alive to her family. Formerly married to Robert Carl Hoffman (deceased) of Camp Hill, Elizabeth was the devoted mother of Denise, Sharon (deceased), Michael and Jason. She instilled in them a sense of humor and expansive curiosity that was in turn passed on to her beloved grandchildren: Rosalie and Carson Smith, and Theo Brandt. Preceded in death by her brothers William Aycock and Thomas Conway, Elizabeth is deeply missed by her surviving brothers and sisters: Edwin Aycock, Jesse Nelson Aycock, Kathy McConaughy, and Alice Aycock. A memorial is being planned for close friends and family. www.pennlive.com/obits

Elizabeth was both a scholar and a good lawyer. She was also a kind and generous friend. My most sincere sympathy to her family.

I considered Elizabeth one of my best friends for many years while she lived in Camp Hill. We had a mutual love for Maine and enjoyed weekly lunches. She had a great sense of humor and I have missed her greatly over these last 10 years! She always talked about her children with great affection and I felt I knew Theo as she talked very fondly of him on the regular! My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
