Lonnie passed away at home Saturday, November 20, 2021 surrounded by his wife, daughters and his dog, Melvin. He had a long hard battle with cancer. Lonnie was born in Piketown, and graduated from Central Dauphin East High School, joined the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He was presented with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving his Country with the Marines. He married his high school sweetheart and they celebrated 52 years together. He was a tile setter for InterState Tile and Mantel Company for 32 years. He received the Harrisburg Builders Exchange Exceptional Craftsmanship Award in 2000, 2001, 2008 and 2009. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was also a member of the Dauphin Home Association. Lonnie enjoyed Golfing, until he didn't. He loved his Phillies (most of time) and enjoyed watching his Steelers and Penn State Football. He was an avid puzzler. He was a very down to earth and enjoyed a simple life. He loved his family (especially his grands). Poppy was the keeper of gumballs! Lonnie was predeceased by his parents, Simon and Dorothy Straw and his son, Lonnie R Straw, Jr. Lonnie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alexis Kay Straw; his daughters and their husbands, Andrea and Tony DiMattia and Shannon and Ryan Pechart; his grandchildren, Mason, T.J., Torre, Jake and Chase; his sisters, Carol Jenakovich, Rhonda (Lyn) Baker and Bonita (Greg) Heckert; his brother, Barry (Barbara) Straw; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021 at 7 P.M. at the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 6011 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annvile, at the convenience of the family. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 6 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
