Stanley A. Swank, age 93, of Harrisburg, went home to be with his Saviour Jesus on September 11, 2021. Stan was born on August 23, 1928, in Harrisburg. He was the son of the late Ruth (Sheckells) Swank Walas and step father, Thomas Walas. Following his graduation from John Harris High School, he enrolled in Electronics School in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an MP guarding German prisoners. After earning his Honorable Discharge, Stan worked at the former Olmstead Air Force Base in Middletown and then the New Cumberland Army Depot as a Quality Control Air Mechanic and Inspector. Following his retirement from the Army Depot, he was a Courier for Osteopathic Hospital and Pinnacle Health for 20 years. Stan was very active in his church, New Love in Christ, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He also loved the harmonica – especially playing Happy Birthday for his family and friends or when someone from his church was sick and unable to attend services, being able to reach out and play their favorite hymn for them. Stan is survived by his sons, Randy (Sharon) Swank, of Harrisburg and Michael (Nancy) Swank, of Daytona Beach, FL and daughter, Tammie (Steve) Scheib, of Harrisburg. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Stacy, Christina, Justin and Lindsey and five great grandchildren, Hailey, Eli, Ian, Addyson and Ryder. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Miller) Swank on March 1, 2017; a brother, Thom Walas and sister, Pat Cozatt; grandson, Tommy Hicks and great granddaughter, Keren Voorhees. His Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday September 20, 2021 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with Pastor Ross Reider, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family in a procession to the cemetery by assembling at the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, 2100 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, between 9:15 and 9:30 A.M. on Monday or meeting at the cemetery at 10:15 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Love in Christ Church, 6003 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, Inc., Harrisburg.

Our sincere sympathies to the Swank family and extended families. We loved ministering with Stan for years at nursing homes and enjoying his harmonica. May God comfort all who knew him and know he is in Heaven with his Lord Jesus. RIP Stan.

I was friends with his daughter Tami growing up. He was one of the sweetest people I know. The whole family is like that I just want to express my sadness hearing about his passing. We all attended the same church growing up. Prayers for the family and rest in peace Stan!

Stan was one of the kindest people I´ve had the pleasure to know. Stan was one of my couriers, and a friend after he retired. Stan had a gift, the ability to bring people together. When at work I would often tell him he was the glue that kept us all together. Stan almost always had a smile on his face and a good natured sense of humor. Stan you will be missed but not forgotten. Condolences, thoughts and prayers to Stan´s children and family, may happy memories replace your sorrow over time. Sincerely, Lisa

Uncle Sonny was a cherished Uncle who gave each of us love, understanding, kindness and guidance throughout our lives. We have precious childhood memories that will stay with us always. As adults he has always been there for us too; loving and guiding those of us who needed it. We miss him already, but we will carry the love and goodness he gave us forever. Until we meet again, Uncle Sonny.....
