Ann Peake Obituary

Ann Elizabeth

Priestley Peake

1936-2011

Ann Elizabeth Priestley Peake, 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 25. She came to Pensacola from Lafayette, Louisiana, January 1968 when her husband Ronald joined the faculty of the new University of West Florida.

Ann was born in Birmingham, Alabama, February 17, 1936. She graduated from Phillips High School, 1954, attended Howard College, 1954-56, and graduated from Montevallo College in 1957.

Ann was the only child of Forbes and Rebie Priestley, both of whom preceded her in death. Ann and Ron brought into this world three wonderful children, Annette Kathleen Peake (Roger) Peadro, Ronald Allen (Leigh) Peake, and Steven Priestley (Dana) Peake who have given them twelve grandchildren: Joel, Erin and Taylor Mead; Brad, Brent and Bethany Peadro; Jamieson Boler, Dianna and Matthew Peake; and Sarah, Christopher and Noah Peake.

Ann made her mark on Pensacola by sharing her voice, her musical talent and her organizational skills with First Presbyterian Church of Pensacola where she sang in the choir, directed children's music and served as an Elder. Twenty six years ago her talents led her and Ron to join with Dr. Kermit Breen and several other key individuals to form the Pensacola Opera and the Opera League. Ann sang in more than twenty operas throughout the years and organized and sang in numerous "Opera-tuneties" and "Carols" programs featuring the opera chorus all leading to her being named "Mom" of Pensacola Opera in 1991.

Ann leaves her husband Ronald; their 3 children and their 12 grandchildren to mourn her passing but, more, to remember the many wonderful times together with family and with close friends. She will be sadly missed and joyfully remembered.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 33 E. Gregory Street, Pensacola, Sunday March 6, 2011 at 3PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the music program at First Presbyterian Church or to Covenant Hospice West Florida Hospital. Friends may send condolences and share fond memories with the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.net.

Ron and family, May God sustain you during these days of loss. I didn't realize that Ann was so ill. She will be sorely missed in the music departments in Pensacola/Escambia County. I remember her most as such a help in "Carols" and in the few productions I was privileged to be a part of with the Opera Company. Bless you, my friend.
