Anna Whibbs Obituary
Mrs. Whibbs was born into a family of artists and artisans in Buffalo, New York, on May 5, 1922. She was a brilliant student who studied Latin, Greek and Music. She was a classical violinist, and later studied piano, which she played beautifully every day until her death. When she was eighteen, she met the love of her life, Vincent John Whibbs Sr., and for the next 64 years they shared a wonderful journey of joy, love and passion, for each other, their large family and their community.
Anna and Vince traveled the world, but Pensacola was their beloved home and they were always happiest when the family was together here. A woman of deep faith all of her life, Anna was a daily communicant in her later years.
Our mother was a phenomenal person of great talent and intuition. She raised a family of five sons and two daughters, and lovingly celebrated her 26 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren as if they were made of platinum and gold. We could never praise her or thank her enough. Her beauty, strength, resilience and courage throughout the years has inspired, awed and comforted us. She truly was a pearl beyond price.
She leaves to mourn her a heartbroken family, and friends who will miss her greatly: daughter, Ann Whibbs Brown, and her husband, Jack; son, Vincent John Whibbs Jr., and his wife, Elizabeth; son, Dr. William J. Whibbs, and his wife, Rosemary; daughter, Kathleen Whibbs Matthews, and her husband, Eddie; son, Gregory Whibbs, and his wife, Margaret; son, Mark Whibbs and his wife, Elisa; and son, John Paul Whibbs, and his wife, Rachael; grandchildren: John Ray (Hue), Bill Ray (Valicia), Andy Ray (Eliza) Maria Goodspeed (Hill), Nicole Webb (Jodie), Betsy Burgess (Gavin), Mary Beth Thompson (Mark), Vincent John Whibbs III (Jenny), Donovan Whibbs (Suzanne), Rosemary Roberts (Clayton), Deirdre Whibbs, Jason Whibbs, Adrianna Williams (David), David Chase, Virginia Chase, Eddie Matthews III, Gregory Whibbs, Erin Whibbs, Robert Whibbs, Anna Theriault (Shayn), Mark Whibbs Jr., Stephanie Whibbs (Anthony), Joey Whibbs, John Paul Whibbs Jr., Delaney Whibbs and Nicholas Whibbs; great-grandchildren: Caspian and Emerson Roberts, Rebecca and Alex Ray, Hunter Vickrey, Chloe, Katie and Andrew Ray, Emma and Sara Ray, Connor, Jackson, and Anna Goodspeed, Abigail Thompson, Maggie, Vinnie and Caroline Whibbs, Donovan and Colin Whibbs, Joseph and Gabriella Webb, Jude Theriault, and Elise Burgess.
Visitation will be held 5:00pm until the rosary to be prayed at 6:45pm on Friday, July 30, 2010 at St. Paul Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00am Saturday, July 31, 2010 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the oldest grandson in each family.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the 21 Club members, led by President, Zee Barnhart.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Anna's honor may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church Building Fund, 3131 Hyde Park Rd., Pensacola, FL 32503 or to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504.
The family would like to express or deepest gratitude to the staff at Covenant Hospice Residence, to Sacred Heart Hospital fifth floor nursing staff and Dr. Terry Neill for their excellent care of our mother.

We loved to sit near Mrs. Whibbs in mass. Mrs. Matthews told us a story one time of being in mass with her mom and Mrs. Whibbs looking back and saying "here they come". When she looked back it was our little family probably filing in at the last minute before mass started. Mrs. Matthews told us that she loved to watch our little family at mass.
