Charles Buckley Obituary

UntitledCHARLES "CHUCK" R. BUCKLEY, JR.
1948-2007

Charles "Chuck" R. Buckley, Jr., age 59, of Pensacola, FL, was taken from our lives much too early on Monday, May 28, 2007. Chuck was born February 24, 1948 in Newport, RI. His family moved to Panama City in 1954. Chuck was an EBS Lifeguard at Panama City Beach and served in the U.S. Navy for four years. After graduation from Gulf Coast Community College, he moved to Pensacola in 1974 to attend University of West Florida. While attending school he worked on various jobs and had his own computer school for several years. He closed his computer school and went to work at Sacred Heart Hospital in their computer department. He eventually returned to school and earned his Master's Degree in Business Administration from UWF which led him to teaching computer programming. He was a great teacher and well liked by all his students. Chuck was truly a modern renaissance man. A great cook at home, a computer technician, a golfer, a unicycle rider in his youth, and co-owner of DanBuck International, Bamboo wood flooring, in Pensacola. Chuck was always curious to learn, helpful to everyone who met him, and he loved his family very much. His quiet demeanor belied his knowledge, wisdom and life experience. Chuck was a man of few words, but when he spoke people listened.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ellen Buckley, Sr., his brother David Buckley, and his aunt Winifred Chase.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 30 years, Debra; his brother John Buckley and his wife Pat Muar of Tallahassee, FL; sisters Winifred "Freddie" Rummerfield and her husband Lenny of Ionia, MI, and Michelle "Mimi" Holder and her husband Dean of Panama City Beach; his wife's parents Rick and Fay Patterson of Pensacola, and her brothers, sisters and their spouses Betsy and Mike Tucker, Rick and Kathy Patterson, Brad and Joyce Patterson, Susan McCall, Jay and Laura Patterson, Tracy and Steve Holley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, June 1, 2007 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bayview Fisher Pou Chapel. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, with Rev. Edison Burleson officiating.
Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery on Monday, June 4, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Chuck's favorite charity, the March of Dimes.
Arrangements made by BAYVIEW FISHER-POU CHAPEL, 3351 Scenic Highway, Pensacola, FL.

Not sure what to say?

I was sad to learn of Chuck's passing. I have known him for years and worked with him at UWF in the 1980's. His drive, and watching him grow inspired me to begin college and earn my BS degree. I regret never telling him that. My sympathies to the family of Chuck Buckley, I know that your loss is a tremendous one.

Debra,
It's hard to know what to say at this sad time because your loss is so great. But even though no words can truly comfort you, perhaps they can, in some small way express the depth of care and concern that's felt for you now. Our throughts are with you.

Chuck is a great guy. I knew him in his class. He's a great teacher in every way, kindness and knowledgeable. He's a great listener with good advice. We became good friends for four years. He recently made beautiful floor for me. Everytime I and my husband see the floor, we think about him. Rest in peace, Chuck. You will be in my memory, forever..

We haven't known Chuck for very long but it seems like we have known him for years. We met Chuck when he came and did our bamboo flooring throughout our entire house. My 3 children really enjoyed having him here and I think he really enjoyed seeing their minds growing. They asked Chuck a bunch of questions and he always answered them in a fun way. I spoke to Chuck a lot while he was here and I found him to be a man full of wisdom, curiosity, and pride for his work. We are really saddened by his death and we offer our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Chuck was a man of few words, but the people who worked with him learned so much from him. He was an inspiration in his field, and helped so many. He will be missed.
