1928-2007

Born in Covington County Alabama on June 14, 1928, Hayward age 79, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2007. He married his now deceased wife, Mary, in 1945 and moved to Pensacola in 1952.
Hayward was proud to be a papermaker. He began work at International Paper Company in 1946. In 1952, he began working at St. Regis Paper Company. He began as an hourly employee and worked up to a supervisory role in 1975. He was given the Jim Roberson Memorial Award for Foreman of the Year in 1986. In 1987, he retired from Champion Paper.
Always an active member of the community, Hayward was a member of East Brent Baptist Church and was a very involved parent with the PTA. He also served as a St. Regis representative of the United Way. He helped organize the Harvester's Federal Credit Union and for many years served on its Board.
In 1953, Hayward became a Mason at Ensley Lodge #278. He held many offices and served on many committees. He was elected to the highest honor of Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge F&AM of Florida in 1991. He also achieved the great honor of 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Masons Pensacola Valley. Other Masonic organizations of which he was a member include Hadji Shrine Past Ritualistic Potentate, Pensacola York Rite bodies, Zelica Grotto, Red Cross of Constantine, Order of the Purple Cross, National Sojourners, Order of the Eastern Star Ensley Past Patron, Legion of Honor Demolay, Grand Cross of Colors Rainbow Girls, and honorary member of numerous lodges.
Hayward was preceded in death by his wife of 60 ½ years, Mary. Survivors include his daughter, Dana Nagel (husband Allen); granddaughter, Shanna Hanks (husband Keith); brother, Joe Stuckey (wife Jane); brother-in-law, Charlie Whatley; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, August 3, 2007 at East Brent Baptist Church with Dr. Dale Patterson officiating.
Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park with Masonic Honors.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Russell Whatley, John Whatley, Jamie Whatley, Ed Stuckey, Heath Stuckey, and Charles Coale.
The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, August 2. Faith Chapel Funeral Home, 100 Beverly Pkwy is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Hayward's honor to Florida Masonic Youth Association in care of Grand Lodge of Florida, PO Box 1020, Jacksonville, FL 32201-1020, East Brent Baptist Church, or Covenant Hospice.
The family wishes to say "thank you" to all the doctors and staff at Hope Medical Group, the nurses on the 3rd floor of Baptist Hospital, Covenant Hospice, and Doris and Dorothy for their loving care of Hayward during his illness.
