Frank Hardy Obituary

FRANK PATRICK
HARDY, SR.
11/28/15-10/5/08

Frank passed away peaceably surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Frank was preceded in death by his mother and father, H.B. and Lucille, his wife of fifty three years, Madelyn, and his brother Ben and sister Lucy.
He is survived by his son Frank (Pam), granddaughters Jenna Adams (Will) and Lauren Hedges (Kelsey) and great-grandson Lukas.
Frank was born in Muskogee, Florida in 1915. His family moved to downtown Pensacola in the early 1920's. He attended the local public schools, starting at PK Younge and graduating from Pensacola High School in 1933.
One of Frank's most enjoyable times during his early teens was the Boy Scouts. He was a member of Troup 5 at Christ Church on Wright Street. It was during this time he discovered photography. Young Frank was the first scout in this area to receive the photography merit badge. He was awarded this badge by Mr. Cottrell, a local photographer, who also helped him further his knowledge of photography.
After PHS, he worked for Sears. His sister was a nurse at the old Sacred Heart Hospital, told him about the hospital adding a new x-ray machine, the technology had just been discovered. He applied and got the position. After training, he took and passed the test, becoming the first registered x-ray technician at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was so proud of this fact, that for many years later, he would show people his ID card. The card number was less than a thousand. He remained at the hospital from 1935 to 1948.
He left the hospital in May of 1948, when he opened his first studio. He rented space across the street from the hospital, next to Moulton's Apothecary. Another fact that he was especially proud of was that Mr. Wilber Moulton never had him sign a lease and he leased space from Moulton Properties for fifty years.
He married Madelyn Mosley from Thomaston, Alabama in 1950 and his only son was born in 1953. He sold the business to his son in 1980, who continues to run the business today.
Frank was fortunate to live in a town he loved, work in a rewarding profession, and the opportunity to be with his family as they grew.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 11am in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church, 6 E. Wright Street, Pensacola with Dr. Wesley Wachob officiating.
HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.

Dear Frank,
Your father gave my family many, many special and unforgetable memories. He was kind, generous and such fun. We were a very lucky family to grow up being your neighbors. Mr Hardy was one of a kind! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Frank,
I am sorry about your Father. He was a, well liked, mild mannered, gentleman. When we were kids Mom would dress all of us up and go to Frank Hardy's.
He is truely a piece of Old Pensacola,
and will be missed by all of us.
My Extreme Sympathy

Frank Hardy was a true gentleman. He took a photo of me with my best friend when we were 14 years old and over many years I would see him at weddings and social functions. He always had time for a chat, always a smile. I have known him over 50 years and in these last few years I saw him mostly at Albertson's shopping and we would stop and chat. I will miss just knowing he isn't here any more but I am happy that he has been released from his pain and suffering and gone to his well deserved heavenly reward. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Mr Hardy was such a gentleman and professional photographer. He took my picture several times many years ago. His 12th Ave office was deep in the heart of East Hill where I grew up and right next door to my family's doctor and his friend Thomas Hoyt MD. Dr Hoyt was my physician for 54 years. Mr Bill Langford's Radio TV repair business where I worked on Saturdays sweeping the shop clean was in the same building complex. Mr Frank was my photographer making me look presentable after all my boyhood mishap scraps, cuts, stitches and broker bone casts.

Such fond memories.

With sincere condolences,

Robert Lawson

I grew up talking to Mr. Hardy each time he'd walk his fluffy dog by my house on Gerhardt. I was only about 10 or twelve years old... but truly enjoyed talking with him. When I got a little older, I'd purposly ride my bike by his house on my way to my grandma's house on Tanglewood to see if he was outside doing yardwork or just walking with his dog out in the yard. He was such a kind man that made a great impression in my life. I am over 30 years old now and still smile just thinking about him. Mr. Hardy was a wonderful man with a very nice smile and a caring heart.

Frank, our best wishes in the passing of your Father. Our family remembers him fondly and we often visited his studio when we went to Moultons just to say hi! because he was always so nice to us. My Mom, Janice Nellums, knew him well as she was also from Muscogee. It was a treat each year to see him visit for our class pictures. Our best wishes to you and family.

Hello, I spent time with Frank at Bayside Manor volunteering in the "Best friends program" from August until 2 weeks ago. I saw him weekly and learned a lot about him and from him. He was a wonderful man and to me .. a great friend. I am saddened by this loss, but I know from all he told me he loved his life with no regrets and was secure with his place with the Lord. My prayers go out to his family. I thank the Lord for the time spent with him and he will be in my heart always.

My Deepest Sympathy to the Family of Mr. Frank Hardy, Sr. He took pictures of Christmas Parties that National Linen Service had over the years and my Husband, Vaughn. who is now deceased, and I were in most of these. Frank, Jr. did the pictures for our Daughter, Cindy's Wedding in July, 1989. Mr. Hardy was also present. Vaughn thought highly of him and considered him a friend.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. We always had portraits done at Mr. Hardy's studio on 12th Avenue when I was a child (he did my first communion picture among others) Quite awhile ago I ran into him at a car dealership after not seeing him since I was young and he remembered my family very well and said he had kept a picture of my father he had taken when my dad was a young man and he wanted me to have it and mailed it to my home. He was always such a gentle and sweet man and after all those years he was exactly the same. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
