Gregory Whitehead Obituary

Gregory Thomas Whitehead

Gregory Thomas Whitehead, 51, from Pensacola, Florida went to be with our Lord on Friday, January 27, 2017. According to his son, Thomas, Greg's soul was as bright as a shining star.

Greg was a Christian. Greg embodied the scripture of 1st Corinthians 13. Greg was kind, he was patient and always had a smile. Greg was an eternal optimist. He was known for his charms, wit and his ability for storytelling. No one will forget his infectious personality.

Greg was born on April 26, 1965 in Elizabethton, Tennessee to Rebecca Jane Whitehead Willingham (Charles) and Thomas Whitehead (Connie). He is survived by his beautiful and loving children, Thomas and Whitney Whitehead, his "baby beans", their mother, Tami Sparks Whitehead, his brother, Jonathan Whitehead (Beth) and his nephews, Alec and Aaron.

Greg found the love of his life with Linda Patti, his fiancé. He fell in love with her children, Carter and Anna Scarritt. He was excited to begin his married life and enjoy their life together.

Greg is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clyde and Pauline Whitehead, and his maternal grandmother, Lucille Byrd.

For Greg, family was everything. He made friends easily and never met a stranger. He worked at Enterprise Holdings as a Remarketing Account Manager and looked upon his fellow employees as his extended family. He cherished the friendships he made throughout his life.

Greg is now our guardian angel. There is no doubt that he is looking down upon us all with tender loving care and wanting us to live life to the fullest as he did with every word and action.

A celebration of his life will be held in Pensacola at the Pensacola Yacht Club on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. 1897 Cypress Street, Pensacola, Florida.

An additional Celebration of Life will be held in his hometown of Elizabethton, Tennessee on Saturday February 4th at 4:00 p.m. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, 101 East F. Street, Elizabethton, Tennessee 37643.

I am devasted by hearing of this tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers are with Greg's family and those who loved him.

Greg was a kind, generous man with a hilarious knack for story-telling. While he lived in Johnson City and Elizabethon, TN he was a dear friend of our family, and though I haven't seen him in many years, we still speak of him often and fondly. He left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He had a consistent spirit and was always someone who could be counted on. I treasure my memories of Greg.

My thoughts and prayers are with Greg`s family at this time. I so remember our time at West Side Christian Church when we were little. We were in a Christmas play together. Remember he is in God`s hands.

Greg was a very special and unique person who loved telling stories. Gary and I have known Greg since he was in College many years ago. He was always full of live. The last time we got to see Greg we met his children Whitney and Thomas. They were the apple of his eye and he glowed when talking and playing with them. May God be with his family and friends during this time. Rest in Peace.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Thomas, Whitney, Linda, Carter, Anna, his parents brother, and extended family. I got to know Greg in the early 2000's playing golf on Saturdays, and Greg was every bit as advertised in his Obituary. Our group affectionately nicknamed him "Bluetick," as in the dog that captures many peoples' hearts. I saw him for the first time in a while last year at the father daughter dance, and i was so happy to catch up with him. Having learned that he moved to Pensacola, my lasting impression was how wonderful a dad he was for making the trip religiously back to Columbus to see his "baby beans". Greg, we will miss you, and I look forward to teeing it up with you again one day.
