HARRY ARCHY NOWLIN
"CHIEF"
1937-2007

Harry Archy Nowlin, born January 4, 1937, died May 2, 2007. He was 70 years old.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Hubert and Carolyn Nowlin, his grandparents, A.E. and Elizabeth Nowlin and a great granddaughter, Jessica.
He is survived by Jane, his wife of 43 years, sons, Dofin (Marliese), William (Jeanie), Joey (Carol), Wayne (Theresa), Paul (Belinda), Steve (Denette), Dale (Jennifer), brother John (Betty), 23 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many other relatives and close friends.
He was a charter member of the Escambia County Sheriff's Posse from October 1955 until the mid 70's.
He loved and was committed to the Tate FFA. His love of animals and the rodeo showed in his dedication to the annual Tate FFA Rodeo.
He created the Diamond N 4-H Horse Club for boys and girls in 1967, which is ongoing today.
Harry worked as a maintenance mechanic at Monsanto, was a member of the Monsanto Fire Brigade for 36 years and he served as chief officer for most of those years.
He served in the army during the Korean Conflict.
Harry's devotion to volunteer fire fighting touched many people throughout his life. He was certified as a Florida State Fire Fighter Instructor in 1966. He was instrumental in bringing certified firefighting courses to the county. In 1974 Harry joined the Molino Volunteer Fire Department and embarked on a lifelong devotion to his community. He served as Chief for 18 years and was a member of the Board of Directors until his death. During this time he worked diligently to bring fire protection through volunteer departments not only to Molino, but throughout Escambia County. He was a member of the Escambia County Fire Fighters Association for over 20 years and was chairman for 6 years. He was also instrumental in obtaining much needed funding for all Escambia County Fire Departments. Harry was a firefighter, heart and soul, and that was clear to anyone who knew him. His devotion to the fire department was widespread and well known. To many, he will always be known as Chief.
He loved his family and friends and he was always willing to help others and share his knowledge, experience and expertise whenever it was needed. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

We felt so priviledged to know Mr. Harry the time we did. He was an unforgetable person. He always shared his knowledge and was always willing to help in any way possible. We will be praying for all of the family to feel God's love and peace during this sad time.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
