1919-2016
LCDR Harvey William Prather, Sr., USNR-Ret, went to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, July 16, 2016. He was born to Lorenzo and Ruth Prather of Kansas City, Missouri, on December 24, 1919, at Bynumville, Missouri. He began life as the second of eight children: Emir, Delmar, George, Jack, John, Ruth and Marjory.
Harvey was an active and devoted member for 72 years of the Church of Christ that meets in Bagdad, Florida. He served as a drilling Naval Reservist Aviator for 17 years after his WWII tour and retired with 27 years in the civil service.
He was married for 72 years to Avis Marie Richardson, of Bagdad; and was the father of Harvey Jr., of Milton, Florida, and Jeannie Marie Alison, of Bushnell, Florida. Harvey was also blessed with six grandchildren, Patrick Tyner, Bryan Tyner, Corey Tyner, Harvey "Trey" Prather III, Scott Prather and Allyson (Alison) Girardeau. He also greatly enjoyed his fifteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Lewis Funeral Home in Milton. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel.

I had heard my dad talk about carpooling to work with Mr. Prathe rlong ago, but only got to meet myself him recently. My own dad died 51 years ago, but Mr. Prather still remembered him. Each time I had a chance to speak with him at the community center he was such a sweet kind man and I knew why he was so highly thought of. My prayers are with you Jeannie , Harvey and Mrs. Prather. He will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Prather, Harvey, and Jeannie, and other family members in this time of bereavement and loss. I have known Mr. Harvey all my life as they were my family's neighbors on Church Street. He was such a kind and thoughtful person, he still remembered me after almost 25 years the last time I saw him. He will be missed by so many in the Bagdad Community.
