Howard Grayson Obituary

UntitledHOWARD LLOYD GRAYSON
FEBRUARY 8, 1930
FEBRUARY 11, 2009

Howard Lloyd Grayson was born in Greenville, Alabama on February 8, 1930 to Lloyd and Nina Sellers Grayson. He left his earthly life on February 11, 2009.
Howard was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Grayson; his mother, Nina Grayson; sister, Anne Frost; father-in-law, Rex Williamson; brother-in-law, Terrel Williamson; and two nephews, Harold Frost and John Lloyd Colquitt.
Howard leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Kate Williamson Grayson, whom he met at Troy State University; his sisters, Lina Clary, and Jean (Jack) Frost; sisters-in-law, Joyce (Cecil) Spear, Judy Goode, and Linda Williamson; brother-in-law, Travis Williamson; mother-in-law, Lucy Williamson; and several nieces and nephews.
Howard was a graduate of Greenville High School, a member of the basketball team and the high school marching band. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He had attended Auburn University prior to going into the Army. Returning from the Army, he attended Troy University, where he met his wife, Kate, and married her on March 12, 1954. They had celebrated 54 years of wedded bliss.
Howard and Kate moved to Bushnell, FL in 1955, where they were involved in the educational system. Howard was a teacher, principal, and Supervisor of Schools in Sumter County Florida for 12 years. He was involved with the Kiwanis Club and served as President and other offices during his tenure. Howard and Kate graduated from the University of Florida in 1958 with Masters of Education degrees.
The Graysons moved to Milton in 1967 where Howard taught math at Milton High School until his early retirement in 1976. He owned a cattle ranch where he raised Black Angus Cattle. It was a very satisfying hobby for a number of years. Howard and Kate had another hobby which brought them much happiness, fun and togetherness - antiquing and flea marketing. They traveled throughout the lower southern states meeting new people and finding unique items. They made many friends through those contacts.
The last but not least of the important things in their lives was the church. Howard was baptized in the Community of Christ Church in 1942, where he was a faithful member throughout his life. He was called to the office of Elder in 1985. He served with willingness and love for the people of the Church through his 24 years in the priesthood. He found a great joy in this service.
Funeral services for Mr. Grayson will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2009 at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 prior to the funeral. Teachers are often under appreciated. Mr. Grayson, or "Bubba" as his students affectionately called him, was a great teacher and had a positive impact on many students; I know because he had a profound impact on me. He was a great man.

Mr. Grayson was my Algebra l and ll teacher at MHS. He was one of my favorites and was a super teacher. He had our class's respect and I am glad I was able to tell him how much I appreciated his teaching skills a few months ago.

I am very sorry to hear of Mr. Grayson's passing. He was my Algebra II teacher in 1974/75. He was one of my favorite teachers and I remember him fondly to this day.
