Joe Morris Obituary
1944 - 2007Joe Morris Jr., 62, of Pensacola, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2007.
Mr. Morris was born November 15, 1944 in Pensacola, Florida. He attended and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in 1962 and attended Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, Alabama, receiving his B.S. Degree in Chemistry and Biology. He attended Miami-Dade School of Mortuary Science and obtained his Funeral Directing and Embalmers License in 1969. He was a funeral director and enjoyed golf, reading, world travel and was a sports enthusiast. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, and Deep Water City Lodge #751, Pensacola.
His father, Joe Morris Sr., preceded him in death.
Survivors include his mother, Gladys Morris; son, Tai Y. Morris; sister, Vernita Maria Morris, his grandson Tai Morris II; aunt, Mercedes Blackmon of Tuskegee, Alabama; cousins, Samuel Maxwell Watson of Pensacola, Kathy Evans of Richmond, VA, Afreada Blackmon, Michael Blackmon of Tuskegee, Alabama, Alfred Webb of Greensboro, NC, Prince A. Morris of Pensacola, Maryum Hakeem Abdul-Karqem of Stockbridge, GA, Sabrinya Rainey of Conyers, GA, Ashanti Blackmon, Marcus Blackmon of Nashville, TN.
Services will be held 12 noon Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Bernard Yates, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be the staff of Joe Morris & Son Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Par Four Golf Charities.
JOE MORRIS & SON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
It is the request of the family that in lieu of flowers, charitable contributions be made to the Sickle Cell Disease Association, 850-291-0168.

Tai, I can truly say I know how you feel. I too lost my father 7 years ago and everyday seems like yesterday. But, I always remember the Lord said he will not put any more on us than we can bare and he would be a father for the the fatherless at all times. Joe was a wonderful man, I did not meet a stranger the day that I met him. He always gave words of comfort & wisdom every time that I saw him. He was the proudest grandfather I've ever met, he loved my son dearly. I will not let a day go by without showing Tai,II (aka Duce) pictures of him & his "Big Daddy" and telling him how proud & how much Joe loved him. Our day to day lives will be so different now, we miss him terribly but we have great memories and an honorable man to remember. Mrs. Gladys & Tai you know that I am here for you, and the best thing I can do is take wonderful care of this little man that the Lord has blessed all of us with. I love you!

I did'nt matter when I seen you or were I saw you, I alway's felt that mother love that you have given so many of us that has came in contact with you and your family. We were deeply sadden when we were informed that Joe Jr. had made his transition from this life, to life eternal. We lovingly remember this very day(9/18/99)you rendered service to us when our father/husband(Mr. Earl Richardson) was funeralized.Joe extended his professionalism,care and kindness during our time of sorrow. Mrs. Morris you were a source of strength for our mother. For this and the both of you we are eternally grateful and shall never forget your labor of love. The Word of God declares in I Thessalonians 4:13-18:But I would not have you to be ignorant,brethern, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorry not, even as others which have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. My heart was sadded when I recieved the news of Joe's passing. I know he would be telling you all it is alright to cry, but let there be smiles behind those tears. He had it right with the Lord. Mr. Joe Morris Jr. will truly be missed. I only met him recently when when my mother (Gilda Philpot) passed away. He was so thoughtful in the way that he handled everything. I just know that during his time here, he helped so many people during the most difficult times in their lives, just as he helped my family. I am truly saddened by this tremendous loss. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.

Joe/Abu was a true friend, from childhood days in Carver Court Tuskegee to Hawaii where I still live and remember the warmth, sincerity and thoughtfulness that Joe always shared. I saw him whenever he visited this way, cherished his spirituality and connection to family, friends, and community. He was like a brother to me.
