Matthew Hannon Obituary

MATTHEW S.
HANNON, JR.
1948-2008

Matthew S. Hannon Jr., of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away in the early hours of June 4, 2008.
"Sandy", as he was affectionately known by his close friends and family, was an avid surfer and fisherman. He was called to duty during the Vietnam Conflict in 1968. Sandy was a member of the 1st Infantry division, the "Big Red One", and was actively involved in the "Tet Offensive" campaign of the Vietnam Conflict. During this time, as a troop transport convoy driver, he witnessed a horrible tragedy involving several hundred troops while enroute to one of the fire bases. Matthew suffered from, and ultimately died from, mental trauma and complications inflicted during that period.
He is survived by his only brother, John, and will be interred at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.
Funeral Arrangements will be handled at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home.
