Robert Hoyt Obituary

Robert John Hoyt

1938-2015

Robert John Hoyt was surrounded by family when he went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, September 23, 2015 at Santa Rosa Health and Rehab after a lengthy illness. His wife, children, and most of his grandchildren were able to assemble by his side as he passed into the arms of Jesus.

Robert was born on October 24, 1938 in Mayfield, New York in Fulton County. His parents were Andrew Hoyt and Mildred Barbara Stanton Hoyt.

Robert is survived by his friend and wife of almost 8 years, Mildred Pharr Walker-Hoyt, whom he called "Polly". Love, found in the prime of their lives, brought new zing to living. They have been the cutest, sweetest, most precious little couple to watch. They glowed with 'young' love and adoration for one another. It did not matter to them if they were ballroom dancing, or at the fair or ballgame or graduation with a grandchild, or going to the rodeo, watching bull riding, or at church worshiping together, celebrating holidays with family and friends. They were just enjoying life together. They could make a trip to the mailbox fun!

The family will lay his body to rest on Wednesday, September 30th at Barrancas Cemetery at 2 p.m. We will have a "celebration of his life" that afternoon at 5 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home in Milton. Their Pastor Josh Wilson and Reverend Clain Roberts, the Minister of Music from Immanuel Baptist Church will be officiating.

Robert has three siblings, Theron Hoyt (Elaine), Paul Hoyt (Sandra), and Frona Kissinger. Robert has two daughters: Teena Marie Hoyt and Sheri Lynn Hoyt Lewis (Clifford Alan Lewis). Robert was preceded in death by two of his children Andrew Lamar Hoyt and Mark DeWayne Dunson. His four grandchildren are Alan Lee Lewis (Erica Wood Lewis), Amanda Lynn Lewis, Jessica Gueda Hoyt and Jeffrey Ray Hoyt and one great-grandson Elijah Liam Hoyt. Polly has three living children and one son that died years before their marriage. Lots of extended family that has love Robert through the years.

Robert enlisted in the Navy for 4 years. He served on the USS Antietam CVS-36 in Pensacola, Florida. He was a machinist apprentice. He completed 2 more years in Navy Reserves. He became a journeyman under the guidance of Baroco Electrical Construction. He worked for the City of Pensacola as a Supervisor of Traffic for almost 30 years with zero sick days!

Forsyth House Assisted Living in Milton has been home to Robert and Polly for some time. They have had a real extended family through the caregivers and the residents and their loved ones. They share a special part of your every day life and that makes them family. We count them "family".

There are so many people who have touched our lives with such deep compassion. We, the family, would like to thank everyone for the love and care and sensitivity that you have shown to all of us, but most especially to Robert. Polly did need special support and understanding during the illness of the 'love of her life' and dealing with her own health issues. Thank you for that. Thank you to those at Regency Hospice for helping us get Robert back to Milton after a brief stay at Gulf Breeze Courtyard. And Regency, you were right, Santa Rosa Health and Rehab was the best choice for our parents. They remembered this young love and they knew how to care for them. Dr. Joshua Davis, Dr. Spurlock, Dr. Daniel Ross, and all your office staff have gone above, and beyond to help us in any and every way. We really appreciate your patience and kindness. May God continue to bless your lives, as you have ours.

Robert's grandson, Alan Lee Lewis is a team leader in the upcoming walk, this Saturday, October 3, 2015, to end Alzheimers. Progressive Insurance is matching dollar for dollar what is pledged. What a great way to honor and remember this kind, funny, witty, and loving man, and just maybe help them find a cure for Polly and others. In lieu of flowers, make a pledge or donate your time and energy to honor Robert John Hoyt or someone else in your family or circle of friends. Share this link to connect and be a part!
