Stephen Suchy Obituary

Stephen Bishop Suchy

Stephen Bishop Suchy, 55, passed away December 1, 2011. He was born in Pensacola the third of four children to John J. Suchy, Jr. and Mary Jane Bowen Suchy. Stephen enjoyed an outstanding career in hospitality that took him all over the world. He left Pensacola after graduating from Escambia High to work on cruise ships where he worked his way up to Hotel Director for Norwegian Cruise Line. When he left the ships, Stephen went on to manage at some of the most prestigious clubs from Vespa Country Club in Massachusetts to the Boca Raton Resort & Club. Stephen opened the 1818 Club in Duluth, Georgia as general manager. He moved back to Pensacola in recent years to be near his family. Stephen was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, brother, Daniel J. Suchy, two sisters, Suzanne Suchy Coffey and Constance Suchy Weiss, his nephews and a niece, and a favored cousin, Daniel Bowen and his two sons. Stephen was the pride and joy of his family. He brought joy and laughter to the many friends he made throughout his life. He was a generous and caring son, brother, uncle and friend and we are all the better for having shared in his life. Visitation will be Monday, December 5, 2011 at 9:00am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, services following at 10:00am.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Suchy, Paul Suchy, Daniel Bowen, Christopher Bowen, Christopher Weiss, Mike Young.

I haven't seen Steven since grade school, St. Thomas More. I had a dream about him last night and wondered why.
It's been a while now since you left this earth. I know you met Jesus. You were a wonderful and funny person. Rest in peace.

It's been 12 years and I still can't believe you're gone. I still expect you to meet me somewhere halfway and see that smile as you pull up in your Jeep Grand Cherokee. Missing you Stephen. Thinking also of the Suchy family.

I knew Stephen from the 1818 Club. He was amazing. He did a wonderful job with the Club there. Several things I always remember when I think of him. First is his laugh. He had the most cheerful and echoing laugh of anyone I have ever known. Secondly, his smile could light a room. He was a man of adventure who loved sharing his stories. He was a good listener and insightful. I am blessed to have known him for the couple of years I did, prior to his move to Florida. He is golfing the greens of a better place and the sound of his laughter will long live on in the lives he touched. So sorry for the families loss. He was a delightful man.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Suchy family during this difficult time. I was shocked to hear the news of Steve's passing. I met him some 30 years ago on the NCL ships. He was a great guy with a great smile and a wonderful personality. R.I.P. Steve.

I was sadden to hear of Steve's passing. He was a great mentor to me as he was the first to take me under his wing when I joined the m/s Southward in Miami. Spent many of Saturday driving around with Steve in his car when we were in port. R.I.P. Steve you will be missed.

I am shocked and saddened by the news of Stphen's passing. I just spoke with him a few weeks ago and he was so excited about opening a restaurant and I will miss his amazing laugh. He was loved by all and esp at NCL where most of us met him and he was a fabulous boss. My thoughts and prayers to Sue, Connie, Christpher, Daniel and family.

Stephen will always remain a champion in our hearts. He made us feel special, regardless of status, and he was, and always will be, well loved by all who knew him. His thoughtfulness and humor were equaled only by his generosity and loving nature. Thank you for sharing Stephen with us!

We met Stephen when he was Hotel Director on the Norway, we were lucky enough to share the Captain's table with him. He was a real joy to be around and i am certain that he will be missed by every life he touched.

I first met Stephen in 2004 at the Pensacola Yacht Club when he was hired as The General Manager. The club suffered devastating damage from Hurricane Ivan shortly after his arrival, and through Stephen's tireless efforts and abilities was able to make the Club what it is today....a Club stronger and better than when he arrived, and without peer today.
I counted Stephen as a close and dear friend. Always cheerful...great sense of humor; and a very caring person. Dedicated to his family and friends.
A wonderful kind, generous and loving man who was taken away from those of us who loved him. Gone too soon.

Stephen and I became friends when during his days at Norwegian Cruise Lines and I loved him dearly. He had a spirit of joy that surrounded everyone with whom he came in contact. That spirit will always be with us. May the knowledge that Stephen is among the angels in a far, far better place give you comfort during these sad days.

Dear Suchy family,
I was so saddened to learn of Steve's passing. My brother Fallon was one of his oldest friends, and my sisters knew Steve's sisters. I always enjoyed hearing of Fallon's "adventures" with Steve. The world will miss his humor and his kindness. May you find comfort knowing that he now rests in God's arms.

Dear Suchy Family

I am totally shocked as I heard through a friend that 'tv'(my nickname for him) passed away; Not too long ago I reminded him that I will soon move in with him as this was our 'joke' if we are both single by the time I am 50, I move in with him; guess what he sent back to me .. his address! Yes, that's the 'tv'I will always remember in my heart, as he was my mentor and my friend since we met at NCL.

I am very sorry for your loss and I am hoping that you can get in touch with me at [email protected]

With my deepest sympathy

To Stephen's family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I was an employee of Stephen's at the 1818 Club. Stephen was a very dear friend of mine and he was the best boss that I have ever had. I just found out today and hated that I couldn't attend the services to pay my respects. Stephen was a wonderful, caring and giving man. He will forever be deeply missed and my heart is so heavy for your family. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this hard time. Jody G. Scales (404) 867-2461

Steve will always be a fond memory of my childhood as a classmate of the St. Thomas More parochial school graduating class of 1970. I have not seen Steve since my late teens when we ran into each other at Seville Quarter. Sounds like he had a nice life with many friends. I was very saddened to hear of his passing. My deepest condolences to his family.

Stephen was a classy, sensitive, generous man who enjoyed spoiling everyone, including both myself and my parents. I met him when we both worked at the Boca Raton Resort & Club 20 years ago and we've been friends ever since. His passing is a shock and makes me very sad.  I am grateful to have enjoyed special times with him and will miss him. Of comfort is knowing that Stephen is with his Dad and loved ones that have gone before him.  My thoughts and prayers to all of the Suchy family. I am so sorry Mrs. Suchy.

I will miss him dearly. It was an honor and pleasure to have him called friend. I will miss our weekly phone chats about anything and everything. Every time pirates of the carribean or national treasure was on I would await his phone call and ask me if I knew what was on. I will always think of him when those are on. he brought joy into many lives and that will be missed. He was a loving son and brother and my golf buddy. we will meet up again someday and play 18. Deepest condolences.
