Norma Cronin Obituary

GERALD – Norma Alice (King) Cronin, 87, of Gerald, passed into eternal rest Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Norma was born Dec. 1, 1926, the fourth of 11 children born to the union of Lonnie R. and Susie (Sanders) King of Birdseye.
A 1944 graduate of Birdseye High School, Norma later attended Lockyear Business College in Evansville. She worked at the Evansville State Hospital, formerly Woodmere, when she met and married her husband, Cyril F. "Red" Cronin. They moved to his family farm in Gerald in 1946. There they operated the General Store and the U.S. Post Office until it closed in 1952. Norma then went to work at Ken-Rad, later General Electric, until 1956.
Her favorite pastime was watching Dr. Phil every day and being with her family. She enjoyed gardening and mowing grass when she was younger. She also crocheted numerous afghans for gifts for her family and friends, and she looked forward to the King family reunion each fall.
Mr. Cronin passed away Sept. 11, 1970. Also preceding her in death were her youngest son, Barry Alan Cronin June 15, 2008; her daughter-in-law, Darlene Rae (Copeland) Cronin; a grandson, Chester Earl Cronin; sisters Nellie Chanley, Agnes Chumbley, Louise Rush and Minnie Laswell; her brother, Lester King; a niece, Geneva Mae Adkins and a nephew, Harold Gene Chumbley.
Norma is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Donald) Kellems and Gerry (Ronald) Kellems, both of Tell City and Greta Carroll of Derby; her son, Larry Neal "Bub" Cronin; a daughter-in-law, Edi Cronin; her grandchildren, Jeremy and Jennifer Dawson, Logan and Landon Kellems, Amber Cronin and Jared Carroll and a stepgrandson, Jimmy Wiseman. Also surviving are her brothers, Carroll Ray (Nellie) King and Kenneth (Shirley) King, both of Derby; Farroll (Joy) King and Garroll (Betty) King of Birdseye; her sister, Reba Volgemann of Tell City; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who cherish her loving memory, especially the memory of her homemade chicken and dressing.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24 at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel. Burial will be in Lilly Dale Cemetery. Steve Bennett will officiate. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
