Rev. Gregory Chamberin OSB Obituary

ST. MEINRAD – The Rev. Gregory Chamberlin OSB, a monk and priest of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, died June 10, 2014, in the monastery infirmary.
He was 75 and a jubilarian of both profession and ordination.
Surviving are two brothers, Floyd Chamberlin of Indianapolis and Elvan Chamberlin of Greenwood.
Father Gregory was born in Indianapolis Oct. 12, 1938, and given the name David Andrew at his baptism.
He joined the Saint Meinrad monastery as a novice in 1958 and professed his simple vows Aug. 15, 1959.
After completing his education in the college seminary, he graduated in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in French. He professed his solemn vows Aug. 15, 1962, and was ordained to the priesthood May 2, 1965.
After ordination, he served at Saint Meinrad College for 25 years as a French teacher, assistant dean of students, dean of students and vice rector.
His parish work began in 1987, serving at St. Michael's in Cannelton; St. Pius in Troy and St. Louis Church in Memphis, Tenn. He then served for two years as administrator of St. Henry Parish in St. Henry.
In 1991, he began a 23-year assignment as pastor of St. Benedict Parish – later St. Benedict Cathedral – in Evansville. He retired in 2013 due to health issues.
The Office of the Dead will be prayed at 7 p.m. Thursday (today), in the Archabbey Church, followed by visitation until 9 p.m.
Visitation Friday will be from 8 to 9:45 a.m. in the Archabbey Church, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow in the Archabbey Cemetery.
All times are Central time.
A memorial Mass for Father Gregory will be celebrated Tuesday, June 17, at 6 p.m. at St. Benedict's Cathedral, Evansville.
