Alan Lyle Meeks, Sr.

Suffolk - - Alan Lyle Meeks, Sr., 59, a loving husband, father, son and friend to many, passed away on December 6, 2014 after a brave battle with cancer. A native of Portsmouth, he was predeceased by his father, Alonza L. Meeks, Sr.; and his brother, Alonza L. Meeks Jr. "Lonnie". Lyle was a shop foreman with DK & J Truck and Tire Repair. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed fishing, canoeing and spending time in the mountains.

Survivors include his beloved wife and best friend Nancy; his mother Lynn P. Meeks of Portsmouth; three sons, Alan Meeks, Jr. and Adam Meeks of Suffolk, and Kaine Rosen of Virginia Beach; one daughter, Samantha A. Martinez of Suffolk; and eight grandchildren, Bubba, Dayana, Adam, Heather, Stefanie, Blake, Samantha and Joshua.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 4 PM in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by Pastor Chris Amos. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Stand Up To Cancer at www.standup2cancer.org . Online condolences may be made at www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com

Nancy, I recently heard of Lyle's passing. My heart aches for you and your family. Lyle and you were so welcoming to me and my two children. My kids still think and remissness about the time you guys came to visit us in San Diego. What a great time the kids had with him. He had once told me no matter what happened I was always welcome in your home to come and visit. From the first time I met him I saw what a kind and caring man he was with a heart a heart of Gold. He will always have a special place in my heart. I was lucky to have known him. My kids were heart broken when I told them of his passing. He now can rest and watch over you and your family. First and foremost, my deepest and most sincere condolences to Lyle's family. We have shared many laughs as well as tears together through the years. I will always cherish those memories! Lyle was a hard working, family loving, give the shirt off of his back kind of man and I am grateful to have known him.
I struggle to find the right words to express how sorry I am that this has happened. We have lost a wonderful man and he will be missed dearly.

No greater brother ever exited! Lyle was there in every way for Lonnie and their bond was unbreakable! Nancy said it best, we were blessed to be married to such strong, wonderful brothers. Nothing can ever separate them now!!! My heart bleeds for Nancy, Lynn and everyone of us that was touched by Lyle! Fly high brothers, your work on earth is done! How lucky we were to have you in our lives!!
