Annie Jones

Annie M. Jones SUFFOLK - Annie Maude Harrell Jones, 91, of Richmond and formerly of Suffolk, died Aug. 3, 2009 after a short illness. Born in Gatesville, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Theodocia Victoria and Elijah Harrell. She was predeceased by four siblings. She attended Elon College and moved to Suffolk in 1936. She was a medical records transcriber for Sentara Louise Obici Hospital for 20 years. She was the proud mother of twins and enjoyed all of their activities. She also enjoyed her flower garden. She corresponded regularly with friends and family through notes and cards. She looked forward to attending the Harrell Cousins Luncheons and the Harrell & Griffin Family Reunions, annually. She was a member of Suffolk Christian Church, The Women's Fellowship and West Memorial Bible Class. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Clarence Woodrow (Red) Jones; daughters, Jacquelyn Jones Stone and husband Gerald, and Jeanette Ann Jones both of Richmond; nieces, Cathy Bowing of Sneads Ferry, N.C., Vickie Harrell of Ayden, N.C.; nephews, John Glenn Harrell and wife Cricket of Cary, N.C., Kevin Bowing of Virginia Beach; dear friends, Carolyn Matthews of Richmond and Mary Elizabeth Turner Franz of Edenton, N.C. A funeral will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434, by the Rev. Michael D. Halley with burial in Holly Lawn. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. There will be a reception following the burial at Suffolk Christian Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Christian Church, 216 W. Main St., Suffolk, VA 23434. The family expresses special thanks to the staff at Bon Secours Hospice and Henrico Doctors Hospital for their compassionate care during her illness.
