Aroostine R. Kiehl

Virginia Beach - Aroostine "Dar" Riddle Kiehl, of Virginia Beach passed away November 13, 2016. She was born in Baltimore, MD February 25, 1928, the eldest "Darling" daughter of Captain Frederick L. and Aroostine S. Riddle. She was the recent widow of Captain Elmer Hill Kiehl after 69 beautiful years of marriage.

Raised a Navy Junior, Dar attended Lincoln School for girls in Providence, RI, then met and fell in love with Elmer at the Naval Academy. Married in 1947 in San Francisco, CA, the family grew and thrived, living the Navy life in: Brooklyn, NY, Honolulu, HI, Washington D.C., Groton, CT, Key West, FL, San Diego, CA, Ft. Leavenworth, KS, Camden, NJ, Dunoon, Scotland, and finally settling in Virginia Beach, VA to enjoy retirement. Dar was an active member of the Virginia Beach community since 1974, including a realtor with Cameron Munden & Associates, an ardent supporter of Norfolk Academy, as well as a devoted member of Eastern Shore Chapel, then Galilee Episcopal Church. She will be cherished as a most loving and beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother, and "Great-Great". Dar brightened the lives of every person she touched.

Survivors include: three sons, Thomas H. Kiehl of Norfolk, VA, Timothy R. Kiehl (Anne) of Bethesda, MD, and Grant L. Kiehl (Cindy) of San Diego, CA, sister Hatty McDowell (John) of Carlisle, PA, seven grandchildren, Marian Kiehl-Kearney (Chris) of Virginia Beach, Allison R. Kiehl (Sarah) of Asheville, NC, Alexander L. Kiehl (Wenny) of London, Nicholas H. Kiehl (Lucy) of Los Angeles, CA, Robbie L. Kiehl, Nick E. Kiehl, and Meredith A. Kiehl all of San Diego, CA, four great grandchildren, Allie M. Faison, Kaitlin A. Kearney, Kyleigh A. Kearney, and Colin C. Kearney, as well as dear nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by two beloved sons, Alexander G. and Frederick W. Kiehl (Emilija) of London, England, and her dear sister Mary Atkeson.

A funeral service will be held at Galilee Episcopal Church Monday, November 21, 2016 at 11:00 am, with reception to follow in the church social hall. Interment will be private, preceding the funeral service. The family will receive friends at H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road, Sunday evening November 20, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
