Barbara Lewis Obituary

Barbara J. Lewis YORKTOWN - Barbara Jean Lewis, 66, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Aug. 2, 2008. She passed away in her sleep at her home in Tabb. She suffered for many years with illness and pain, but remained brave, strong and selfless. Barbara was a testimony to all who knew her. She shared the faith she lived with others by teaching the Bible to children in "Children's Church," developing a puppet ministry at World Outreach Worship Center (formerly Denbigh Church of God) and showing God's love to her family, friends and those she encountered each day. "At your service, Lord," hangs above her bed. That was Barbara Lewis. She lived to serve Him. Her incredible journey is impossible to put into a few short words. She loved her Lord Jesus, her girls, her family, her animals, her dolls and her angels. Barbara leaves behind her husband of nearly 48 years, Ralph Lewis; two daughters, Jennifer and Suzanne Lewis; two grandchildren, AnnaLise Barton and Roman Burrell; a sister, Victoria Watson; a half sister, Geraldine Oehl; and several nieces, Marion McKinnon, Tracy Lands, Deborah and Cristina Phipps, Catherine Oehl, Brenda Sperbeck and Melissa Astill. A service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the World Outreach Worship Center, 1233 Shields Road, Newport News, with Pastors Bob Collins and Russell Evenson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 10 to 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest in the Garden of Wisdom at Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.

Suzanne,
I am so sorry, I wish I could be there with you. Know that my prayers are with you and the family. I was very sad when I read about your mom. I have many fond memories of her mostly trying to controll us and us laughing at her but I also remember the many times she would just shake her head and laugh right back at her. I am sure she spent many hours praying for us. I will miss her.
Please contact me as I have called your dads house and got no answer. I will see you soon.

Jennifer,

I am very sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I remember your mom from when we were just kids and I always thought that she was the nicest lady. It was nice to connect and hear about your mom and the family a few weeks ago at the reunion.

Hang on to the good thoughts and memories and know that she is happy and at peace.

With deepest sympathy,
Dwayne

Jennifer and Suzanne,

I remember your mom putting you on the school bus as little girls. She was so proud of the women you grew up to be. She is now in Heaven with her Holy Father. May God Bless You All.

Jennifer and Susanne and Mr. Lewis

I am extremely sad for your loss. It wasn't long ago that I saw Mrs. Lewis in Food Lion and she was telling me all about her newest granddaughter. She was thrilled at how much she looked like Jen. I hope you will all keep her memory alive so that her grandchildren will know and love her as much as every one who knew her did. My deepest sympathy to you all.

I too worked with Barbara at Oyster Point Family practice, but I also had the priviledge of worshiping with her at Denbigh Church of God. She never waivered in her stand for Jesus and shared her faith with everyone she met. I am glad that I got to know her. My deepest sympathy to Jennifer, Suzanne and Ralph, and thank you all for sharing your beautiful and funny wife and mother with me.
She is no longer in pain and will never again shed another tear! She is dancing before her Father's Throne!

Heaven is a better place now that Barbara is there. Barbara and I worked together at Oyster Point Family Practice. That is how we met. Barbara never judged me during my younger, wild years. She was always there for me after I found Jesus, she lead me and answered questions for me. She lead me to the bible I now love and enjoy. I will miss her so much but I know she and I will be together again in the Kingdom of God. Barbara is no longer sick and she is dancing and singing with the angels now. She is right where she wants to be, with our Lord face to face! She is not only with God's son but she is seeing her own son. I know she was looking forward to meeting him. I'm so happy for her. I'm very sad for her daughters and her husband. I'm sad too for her grandchildren who will not remember her. They have a wonderful grandmother and I hope their mother's will keep her spirit alive. I hope that I can do for others as Barbara has done for me. Thank you for her Jesus. You made her as close to perfect as a person can be.
