Bill Mantos Obituary

Bill Mantos Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Bill Mantos Jr., 55, died suddenly and unexpectedly at his Virginia Beach residence April 8, 2011. Born in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of William and Nancy Mantos, currently of Union Port, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Julie Rosmer Mantos of Virginia Beach and by three children: Holly Mantos (and Ryan) Sawyer of Chesapeake, Jayme Mantos of Suffolk and William David Alexander Mantos (birth March 19, 2011) of Virginia Beach. He also will be sorely missed by his wife's parents, David and Louise Rosmer of Norfolk, his extended family and his many friends. Bill grew to manhood in Virginia Beach and among other things, played football for Bayside High School. During that time, he was named "Unanimous Choice" for Offensive Guard on the All City Team. He also learned to play the electric guitar, which he enjoyed his entire life, and which he played in several bands. He was fascinated with the study of history, especially Greek history and that of the American Civil War. He was especially fond of western movies and could do amazing impersonations of John Wayne and other movie cowboys. He was known far and wide for his wit and his many comic voices...so many in fact that he was sometimes called "The Virginia Beach Robin Williams." Bill worked for many years in the advertising field at more than one television station, most recently at WTVZ in Norfolk. Ironically, at the time of his death, he was surrounded by family members who had come from distant locations to formally meet his young son, born just three weeks prior. They, along with others, have provided loving support to the entire family. A memorial service to honor Bill's life will be conducted at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Ave., Norfolk 23517, April 12 at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Heart Association, 500 Plume St. E., Norfolk, VA 23510. Online condolences may be sent to hdoliver.com.
