Catharine Printz

Catharine Allie D. Printz SMITHFIELD - God reached his hand down from heaven Aug. 27, 2008, and took one of his children to heaven with him. Catharine Allie Davis Printz, born Jan. 5, 1906, lived to be 102 years old. She was a blessing to all who knew her. She was born in Norfolk, to Trynie Davis Starkenburg and John Paul Davis. She resided in Norfolk for 91 years. She moved to Smithfield in 1997. Catharine was a homemaker who enjoyed her membership and Tuesday Ladies Bible Class at the Christadelphian Ecclesia in Norfolk. Catharine was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Leland Dwight Printz; her sisters, Goldie Halbett, Eveleen Perkins, Cornelia Ferrell; and grandson, Robert Sherwood Scott Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Scott Barham; her granddaughter and husband, Susan and Michael Schrum; and her great-grandchildren, Robert Shawn Hall, Christopher Jack Hall, her namesake Catharine Leigh Hall, Christopher Michael Schrum, Casey Lynn Schrum and Carter Dean Schrum. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Starkenburg and her sister, Trynie Starkenburg Brittle. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Armistead Avenue in Hampton with William Montgomery officiating. Following the service, we will greet friends and family for lunch at the Poole's Grant Clubhouse. A private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to feed the hungry and homeless to either the Pantry Ministry at Ivy Memorial Baptist Church, 2200 Coliseum Drive,. Hampton, VA 23666 or the Christian Outreach Ministry at Trinity Methodist Church, 201 Cedar St., Smithfield, VA 23430.
