Daniel Spotten Obituary

Daniel Spotten died peacefully on March 3rd 2023, surrounded by his adoring family. He was born on April 8th, 1930 and lived in Little Falls/Albany New York. He was born to the late Mella and Cornelius Spotten and was the younger brother to Neil Spotten (deceased). He is survived by his loving wife, Lois and his children Daniel, Dale, Derry, Dody, Debra, Deanna, Amy, Margaret and Stephen. He was loved by all of his daughters in law and sons in law and his 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Dan served in the US Army and later worked for AT&T for 33 years. When he transferred to Norfolk, VA, he later met his wife Lois, whom he married on a sunny Valentines Day on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. They lived for many years in Virginia Beach and later in Exmore VA where Dan explored as many ponds and creeks as he could, catching and releasing untold number of freshwater and saltwater fish, including several citation catches. If not in his bass boat or square dancing with Lois or making a big pot of spaghetti and hot Italian sausages, Dan was never more happy than when quietly swinging on his porch swing next to his wife, with two fingers of bourbon in one hand and a black lab under the other.

We was a great man, a loving husband, and a gentle and stabilizing force in our lives. He will be terribly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to UUSC.org Condolences may be expressed at www.simplycremationonline.com. "...if others wonder why I'm missing..just tell them I've gone fishing!"

I knew Daniel only for a short time. I quickly came to appreciate what a pleasant and friendly man he was. I wish only that I could have had more time with him. Our best to you, Lois, and to the rest of your family. And thank you for sharing Daniel with us, even if for a short time.

I knew Daniel for only a short time, but to know Daniel was to like him. My wife, Juanita, and I were devastated to learn that he had died. I'm sure he will be missed by all who knew him. A gentleman, a quiet man, a good man to know.

Hey Pops, gonna miss our quiet talks. You did good in all things and I know how much you loved Lois. My favorite "Popism": when the mind is weak, the whole body suffers ;-) You brought us up the right way - tough and independent. You're now at rest and peaceful. While I'll miss you, reckon I'll see you again. And if you want to take me fishing, I promise to "sit still". Love ya bud..."got you covered"...

To say Dan was a friend is an understatement, I loved him like my brother. We started fishing together in the early 80's and had many great times together fishing as well as in each others homes. Lois you and Dan made our move to Eastern Shore a joy. We never thought of you as friends but family and still do. Please call when you feel like Talking and or if we can be of any help.
