David Mitchell Obituary

David Matthew Mitchell VIRGINIA BEACH - David Matthew Mitchell, 37, went to be with the Lord March 20, 2008. He was born Feb. 22, 1971, in Virginia Beach to David G. and Barbara R. Mitchell. He was a JMU graduate and an employee of Northrop Grumman. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, loved fishing and boating and was a wonderful piano player. David was a rock for his family, and was always there to help out whenever needed, especially for his wonderful Elaine, helping her through her battle with breast cancer. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Barbara Reed and his paternal grandparents, Dr. Alvin E. and Marie E. Mitchell. David was a caring son, brother, grandson and friend and will be deeply missed. Left to cherish his memory are his parents; sister, Meredith A. Kash and husband Robert of Virginia Beach; grandfather, retired U.S. Navy Capt. John Reed of Virginia Beach; uncles, John W. Reed Jr., Richard E. Reed and Scott A. Reed; his loving companion, Elaine Morris of Hampton; his beloved dog, Genny and his other three canines, Micah, Amber and Dixie. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Diabetes Association or The Virginia Beach SPCA. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 1565 Sandbridge Road. Family and friends are invited to the Mitchell home following the service. Smith and Williams Funeral Home is handling arrangements. You may offer condolences to the family at www.mem.com.

To the Mitchell family: I wonder whether you will read this... I just want to send my condolences to a family that was once as close as my own. All my love and although I know that you never get over the pain, you learn to live with David in a different way, knowing that one day you will be together again.
Elaine, I don't know you nor your family but send you my best wishes as well.

To all who knew and loved Dave: Tammy and I knew Dave for only a few years, but in those short years we felt as if we had known him forever. We’ll never forget Dave for his warm, boyish smile, magnetic personality, and his love for the Redskins. I will never put MY Redskin sweatshirt on again without thinking of Dave. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the whole Mitchell family, especially our Elaine, and to the whole “get-a-long gang”. Dave, we miss you………………

God bless you Dave. May He hold you and keep you safe and happy. May He wrap loving arms around your family and friends...and everyone who knew you. You made me laugh, and I am by far not the only one. What a kind, funny, sweetheart of a guy you were. I only wish that I was not referring to you in the past tense now, as it is so sad to do so for all who knew you.

To his mom, to his family, to his Elaine: Many others loved him too, though no one can feel your pain. I pray that your love for him and the knowledge of others' love for him will help sustain you in this trying time. Though he left too soon, he is in his glory now.

Dearest Berry, I am shocked, heartbroken and sick from my head to my toes. I can`t stop thinking about you and David. I know that he was your heart beat and the light of your life. I want someone to tell me that this news is not true.I wish that I could take away your pain. A pain that should be felt by no parent ever. Breathe..and then remember that David will always be in your heart. He would hate for you to be so sad. When you can, smile because he would want you to. Please know that I am thinking of you and I wish that I could make it all better for you. I know that you were THE BEST MOTHER EVER! Give it some time. Your friends all love you as they did Davy. All my love and hugs, Anne PS. Google "Death is Nothing at All" it always gave me comfort.

I really don't know what to say other than I hope that everyone knows what Dave really meant to all of us. We were all not only co-workers, but true friends that knew almost everything there is to know about each other. We shared the best and worst of times together. We laughed a lot, joked a lot and even bared our souls to each other from time to time. I will always cherish all of the memories of the many good times we shared. I feel blessed to have experienced all that we did together and I also feel blessed to have had Dave as a friend through the years. Miss you Bro.....

March 26, 2008

Dave,

You meant so much to all of us
You were special with many reasons why
You brightened up the darkest day
And the cloudiest sky

Your smile alone warmed our hearts
Your laugh we will always hear
And we would give anything
To have you standing near

Your friendship we will never forget
You will always be on our minds
I'm sure you can hear all of us
Our emotion and our cries

Know this we will miss you
And as each day goes by
We will fondly remember you
And keep you in our lives.

I miss you already......

My heart goes out to the Family and Elaine. Dave and I shared so, so, so, many laughs. He was a great person and good friend. Dave was the kind that would do anything for you, like the time he kept my dog Kisses while I was on my honeymoon. When I returned, he and Elaine was little upset with the dog, because she kept them up all night. They couldn't get her to stop barking. What they didn't know, is that Kisses is use to sleeping in the dark and they had a light on. LOL. Dave you will truly be missed.
