Doris Barnes Obituary
Chesapeake - Doris Stephens Barnes, 83, joined her Savior Wed., Sept. 5, 2012 from complications resulting from a recent diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Doris was born April 21, 1929 in Emporia, VA to the late Tom Gilbert Stephens and Emma Jane Harris Stephens. She was also preceded in death by her sister Gracie Stephens Cook. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Willie E. Barnes and children Carol Barnes-Hightower, Delran, NJ; Marietta B. Cowart; Willie D. Barnes, Atlanta, GA; Adreon C. Barnes; Jeffrey Barnes (Darlene); Emily D. Barnes, Washington, DC; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild; sisters Pashion Futrell and Emma B. Miller; brothers Frank, John, Gilbert, Ernest and Lorenzo Stephens; 5 brothers-in-law ; 2 sisters-in-law; numerous relatives and friends. Homegoing services will be held 11 a.m., Sept. 15, St. Paul COGIC, 1615 Isaac St., Norfolk, VA. Public viewing will be held 11 a.m. - 8 p.m., Fri., Sept. 14, Metropolitan Funeral Service, 120 W. Berkley Ave., Norfolk, VA, where the family will receive friends at 6pm.

It was always a highlight of my day when Doris would come into our office. She was never without a smile and a twinkle in her eyes. Doris was a one of the loveliest ladies I have ever known and it was a priviledge to have had her pass through my life. Many blessings......

I admired mrs barnes for her strong faith and her unwillingness to give up...I will never forget what she said to me as I was helping mary with her one afternoon she said "when I get my manison I'm going to build a room for you" well ms doris you have your manison now...so when we see each other have my room ready...you will always be loved and truly missed rip your friend danna

To My Family the Barnes, It sadden my Heart to Hear of Mom Passing, I will always miss mom her words of encouragement and her voice each time we talk. She would always tell me how proud she was of me and that she love me. She will always hold a special place in my heart. I will miss her dearly.
