Edward Hall Obituary

Edward Litton Hall, Jr., 78, of Great Bridge passed away peacefully at sunset in Norfolk on December 4, 2020, with family at his side.

Ed was the son of the late Edward Litton Hall, Sr. and Zola Mozelle Johnson Hall of Radford, Virginia, and brother of the late Gary Hall, of Jacksonville, Florida. He is survived by Jacquelin S. Hall, his wife of nearly 55 years; son William Hall (Margaret Malone-Hall) of Arlington, Virginia, and son Arthur Hall (Meghan) of De Pere, Wisconsin; grandchildren Noah, Elissa, Cyril, and Zola; sister-in-law Susie Hall; sister- and brother-in-law Kim and Sam Kalvass; nieces Kelly Britt and Aimee Malec; and nephews Gary Hall II, Cory Kalvass, and Samuel Kalvass III.

A 1965 Virginia Tech graduate, Ed worked as a mechanical engineer at Armco Steel in Ashland, Kentucky until 1979; as superintendent of mechanical maintenance at Armco's Ambridge, Pennsylvania seamless pipe mill until 1985; as a quality assurance manager at the Jonathan Corporation in Norfolk until 1993; and as a quality assurance manager at Givens distribution center in Chesapeake until he retired in 2010.

Ed served his community as a Boy Scout leader, president of the Las Gaviotas Homeowners Association, and member of the City of Chesapeake Planning Commission. He also ran for City Council in Chesapeake in 1996.

Ed will be remembered for doing his own home and car repairs, refinishing furniture, helping his wife with holiday decorations, golfing with friends, doing genealogy as a hobby, and cheering on the Hokies and Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved going to the beach on vacation.

Ed was stubbornly self-reliant, persistently realistic, and infectiously optimistic. He built a life for himself and his family far removed from his origins.

Ed's family wishes to express its deep appreciation for the care he received from the staff at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital during this especially trying time. His family will hold a private service and he will be buried at East Matoaca Cemetery in Chesterfield County. In lieu of flowers, his family has established the Edward Hall Virginia Tech memorial scholarship with donations accepted at gofundme.com/f/edward-hall-vt-scholarship.
