Eleanor Manning Obituary

Eleanor Manning ROANOKE - Eleanor Roberts Pearce Manning, 92, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010, after a long illness. She was born Nov. 14, 1917 in Norfolk. She attended Longwood College and briefly worked for C&P Telephone, the Virginian Railway, and Heironimus Department Store. She was active in the Girl Scouts and an avid reader, traveler and lover of animals. Mrs. Manning was a member of Christ Episcopal Church for 20 years and later a member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Benajah King Pearce and Gladys Roberts Pearce. Surviving are her husband, Charles C. Manning Jr.; son, Charley C. Manning of Roanoke; daughter, Margaret Manning Walker and husband Charles of Roanoke; two granddaughters, Katherine Walker Powaski and husband Matthew of Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio, Sara Walker Fishburn and husband Tom of Houston, Texas; five great-grandchldren, Collin Fishburn, Brendan Fishburn, Anna Powaski, Kari Powaski and Joseph Powaski; sister-in-law, Patricia Manning Kieffer of Coronado, Calif.; cousins, Marilyn Pearce White of Norfolk, Donna Roberts Brozusky of Warrior Run, Pa. Memorials may be made to the American Heart and Stroke Association or to the Roanoke Valley SPCA. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, in St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Church in Roanoke. The family will receive friends following the service. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory Roanoke, Va.
