Herbert Woodhead Obituary

Herbert Woodhead Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Herbert Edward "Woody" Woodhead Jr., passed peacefully during his sleep in his home in Virginia Beach early on the morning of Dec. 26, 2010. Born Aug. 23, 1917, Woody observed his 93rd Christmas. Woody led a very full life. Besides his civilian life he served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force. He also served as an ordained minister for an additional 13 years. He and his wife Ruth moved to Virginia Beach in 1984 to reside closer to their son Pete and their grandchildren. For the next 10 years Woody assisted Pete in his small business. Woody was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Woody lost his youngest son Michael in 1992 and his wife Ruth in 2001. He is survived by his son, Herbert E. "Pete" Woodhead III; daughter-in-law, Phyllis; his grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, Nathaniel and Holly Hufton; and his three great-grandchildren, Allison Alvarado, Mariah Hufton, and Kelly Hufton. A celebration of Woody's life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at the home of Pete and Phyllis Woodhead, 1632 Lake Christopher Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. All friends of the family and those who knew Woody are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the M.E. Cox Center for Elder Day Care in Virginia Beach, www.mecoxelderdaycare.org. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cremate. org.
