Hilda Martin Obituary

Hilda G. Martin PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Hilda Austin Gray Martin, formerly of Princess Anne County, passed away July 14, 2010 in Port St. Lucie. She was born June 18, 1923 in Avon, N.C. She was the daughter of Alfonzo and Eva Gray and the widow of Elmer T. Martin. Hilda was predeceased by a son, Ronald Martin; siblings, Lupton Gray, Jenny Sanders and Aretha Lane. She is survived by her daughter, Priscilla Devereux of Port St. Lucie: her sons, Tommy Martin and his wife Nancy of Virginia Beach and Donald Martin of State Farm, Va.; and her sister, Wilma Hill of Kinston, N.C. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Rhonda Atkinson, John Traver, Yvonne Doto, Todd Martin, and Lindsey Olinda and their spouses; as well as her eight great-grandchildren. Hilda was a true "Southern lady" in every sense of the word. She loved her family and loved to cook for them. Meme enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the fullest. She was a member of Charity United Methodist Church. Hilda was also a member of the Ruth Bible Sunday School class. She is now with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1801 Baltic Ave., Virginia Beach on Sunday, July 18, from 6 till 7:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held Monday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Charity United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charity United Methodist Church Building Fund. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Maestas Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
