Ida Sykes Obituary
Ida loved to travel, especially our trips every year to the mountains. She also enjoyed the yearly conventions with her retirement group NEREA, Navy Exchange Retired Employee Association. She never missed a chance to go to Dover, Delaware.
In 1947, Ida went to work for the Navy Exchange. She worked for the Accounting Department. She became the Assistant Accounting Manager and retired in 1981. After retiring, she was able to spend time with her mother in her mother's final years. This brought her immense joy as her family meant everything to her.
In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her brothers, John H. Sykes, Jr., Andrew J. Sykes, and William R. Sykes; sisters Carrie V. Sykes and Mary Munden; nieces, Linda M. Boyce and Debra Covey; nephew, John T. Munden and her great nephew, James O. Bain, III. (Boomer).
Ida is survived by her sister-in-law, Becky Sykes; niece, caretaker and best friend, Brenda A. Sansone and her husband James M. Sansone; nephew, Richard W. Sykes; nieces, Sharon Fellner, Laura Jones and her husband, Scott Jones, Teresa L. Bain and her husband, James Bain, Sr.; great-nephews, Paul M. Sansone, Hunter Bain, Ian Jones, Bryce Jones and Bradley Fellner; great-nieces, Melissa Stark, Jamie Sansone, Colleen Fellner and Brittney Sykes and great-great nephew, Kevin Stark.
The family would like to thank two of her neighbors for enriching her life with their friendship, Maggie Cofield, her neighbor for over 30 years, and the Cerro family, Marcello, Pamela, Mikaela and Valentina. They shared their girls with Ida and Jack as if they were their grandparents. Thank you also to Dr. Susan Ring and Leslie for taking care of Ida and Jack over the years.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Dr. Chapel, on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, May 14. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
